Work clothes?

You work in the Exec Area of the IT department of an investment bank, Office of the CIO.

Do you wear a sundress, flip flops and a jean jacket to work?

Re: Work clothes?

I guess everyone does.

I think I need to rethink my work clothes.

Re: Work clothes?

Flip-flopsChat Icon never.

jeans jacket - only if it was unexpectedly freezing in the office and I had nothing else.

Sundress, maybe with a sweater over.

All together? Yes, if I was trying out to be Donna Martin in 90210.Chat Icon

Chat Icon Ditto.

But honestly, my office turns their nose up at my sundresses and I'm a receptionist, so I guess it depends on the office. My office? That would not fly for any of the higher ups in IT. For the regular IT workers, it'd be fine though. And no flip flops ever- is it that much more effort to put on a pair of flats?

Re: Work clothes?

Never. Ever.

Someone once told me... "Don't dress for the position you HAVE, dress for the position you WANT to have."

That being said, when I first got out of college I put my first couple of paychecks toward some expensive suits from JCrew, Ann Taylor, etc.

Necessary for my position? Absolutely not. But I think dressing a certain way gives you a certain amount of respect. Especially as I was already one of the only women in an all-male office in a male dominated industry.

However, I worked with someone who wore SHORT cut-off shorts and risque t-shirts on casual fridays. Chat Icon I'd like to think they respected me more, but who knows.

I don't ever dress like that except on casual fridays and some people here wear SWEATSHIRTS and sneakers!

Mon-Thurs, I wear dresses or suits...

Re: Work clothes?

Each of those on their own, maybe, but not all together, not for work. And that would be in July or August, not in today's cold weather.
