Uncalled for remarks when you tell famly members you're expecting
So, DH and I told some other faamily members today. Someone said to me: It's about time, how old are you? I said most women now a days wait a little longer to start a family. She follows with well you don't want to be an old mom, you lose your patience as you get older. I said to her I am fine and will be fine..I thought that her remarks were uncalled for I just let it go but, seriously some people!
I am in my mid thirties! What the heck!?

personally I think you have more patience as you get older...you are also set in your career/life and your stress level is lower.

Some people just don't get it! My mother had just turned 21 when she had me. It's a different world now. I got a job right out of college, got married at 32 and will be having my at age 34! Women are having children later on in life...and that's a good thing! I have friends that are having their first in their 40s. 40 is the new 30!!!

my uncle kind of did the same thing...he congratulated us and said some really nice things first but then said- let me say- it's about time. I reminded him that we had only been married 2 years...

Re: Uncalled for remarks when you tell famly members you're expecting
You lose patience as you get older? That might be one of the stupidest things I have ever heard.
As you get older you are more mature and have so much more patience!
I remember DH's dad would bother us about having kids from the moment we got married 4 years ago. I had said that I wanted to wait a few years and he pointed out that I would be after the age of 30. When I said I knew that, he said "You think it's OKAY to have kids after 30???" He actually argued me with me about how unsafe it is and that I was being selfish for thinking that it was fine and normal to have a baby after 30.
I'm 31 and due in the next couple weeks, SUCK IT FIL!

Re: Uncalled for remarks when you tell famly members you're expecting
When I told a friend of mine a few months ago that I was pregnant with twins, she made a few rude comments that upset me.
First, when she saw a picture of me she said "Kinda small for having twins".
Secondly, she asked if I was married in 2008 or 2009...when I told her it was 2009, she said "Wow...you got pregnant so fast...why didn't you want to wait?...kinda quick". I was so insulted. My DH and I have been together over 5 years and it's our business as to when we want to start a family.
Is it me or was she being obnoxious?

Re: Uncalled for remarks when you tell famly members you're expecting
The night we told MIL and BIL/SIL they were over my parents house for a dinner DH and I were hosting.
I later found out when DH was walking his mom out to her car at the end of the night she said "I thought you'd wait til you both had better jobs..."
I found that a little insulting. DH has been with his job for over 5 years, it pays decent (not great, but we get by without trouble) and he has benefits/senority. Ok, my jobs aren't the best but I am still working and contributing to the household. With today's economy, if we were to wait til we had better jobs, we may be waiting 5-10 yrs. and that's not what we wanted.
We got a few "were you trying?" comments from others...
