Is there a way to prepare for the 1-hour Glucose test?

I'm going for mine on Monday.

Should I avoid certain foods this weekend - or at least tomorrow? Will it make a difference? Any suggestions?

I'm nervous because I have PCOS, which increases your chances of having GD, so I'm praying I don't have it. I was on Metformin before pregnancy, but stopped a few months before because it wreaked havoc on my stomach.

Please share some prayers that I pass! Thanks!!!! Chat Icon

I dont know if you could actually prepare. But the day before the test i definitely stayed away from sugary foods & food sthat contain alot of sugar. Like white starches etc. The day of i drank lots of water & same thing with the food as my appt was at 5pm.

I answered on another thread as well....don't eat befor eyou go. Your sugar goes up and then with the drink it'll stay up causing a false positive. Depending on when you go just plan for a later breakfast or lunch.

Thank you! I'm planning on doing the test at 7:30am Monday, so I'll just eat breakfast afterwards. I figure I'll bring a granola bar with me in case I feel dizzy afterwards.

Brushing teeth should be okay, right? And drinking water?

I also have PCOS.. I didn't do anything special to prepare.. I had my test around 5pm so I ate all the way until I had to stop.

You have to stop eating and drinking 2 hours before the test.. then 1 hour before you drink their drink.. and then they take the blood 1 hour later. I was told NOT to drink water after they tell you to stop eating & drinking.

I took the test 2x at 16 weeks and 26 weeks because my dr said with PCOS and twins it's good to test twice.. my levels came back normal both times.

Good luck!!!!!!! Chat Icon

Not really. The day before I had a cinnabon, m&ms and hot chocolate. The morning of I had a bottle of grapefruit juice. And I passed. Last pregnancy I was A LOT more careful. I ended up taking the three hour. Chat Icon you definitely can't eat or drink an hour before. I Wolfed down the grape juice right at the hour mark before testing.

Double check with your doctor bc every doctor has a different opinion in fasting or not. My doctor said not to fast beforehand, but I know other doctors want you to. The whole idea is not to "pass the test" though, you want to make sure you do what's best for the baby. So you want the most accurate reading of how your body processes glucose. That way, if you do end up having GD, you will know and can do what is best to help keep baby safe and healthy. So I would eat and drink as you normally do that day, and the days leading up to it.

ITA.. i'm going for mine in a few weeks and the dr's office specifically said NOT to fast, and to eat my normal breakfast, just don't eat anything too sugary to throw the test results off (and by too sugary, she said avoid eating 2 candy bars for breakfast Chat Icon)
The point isn't to 'trick' the test... but to honestly find out if there's a problem. You obviously don't want to go overboard with sugar etc the day or morning before to skew the results.. but don't change your normal routine since that's really what it's testing.
