Anyone have a fish pond? I have an emergency and don't know what to do.
Our small 60 gallon pond liner has a leak in it and the filter is not working. Does anyone know who we can call to fix it or if there is any way for completely inexperienced people such as myself to fix it?
We cannot see where the leak is and are worried that if we drain the pond ourselves to look we won't know what to do and the fish will die in a bucket in the interim. We keep just refilling it with hose water.
I don't want my fish to die.
Every landscape place we call gives us outrageous $4000 quotes and we can't afford that right now.
My poor fish  ..

I don't have an answer for you but if you DO take the fish out, I would take out the water from the pond with them. Their water is their stability.

I would call Scherers in Northport. I don't they would be inexpensive to come and fix, but they might be able to tell you how to fix it yourself.
(they are a water garden store)

Have you tried calling a nursery (vs landscaper). Or how about a pet store that maybe has a large fish section, they might know.

My response is probably too late since I noticed you wrote this early this AM.
But if you can use one of those huge beer/can/soda tubs with the rope on each end as a handle. They sell them pretty much everywhere.....even the supermarkets. Fill that tub up with the water left from your pond......then add the fish. Should be big enough to hold them in there temporarily until you fix the leak.
Water directly from a hose can be toxic to the fish......

You can fix it yourself, its similar to fixing a puncture on a bicycle tire.
Take the fish out, leave the pond alone overnight. Let the water go down as much as it can, where the water level lies is going to be where your leak is. Google fixing pond liners and you will find something. My parents have had ponds for years, and leaks happen! It goes with the territory, and some of their fish have been in their pond for over ten years, some of them I bought before I moved away in 1999.

Not true at all... and the only thing in tap water that is "toxic" is chlorine. And A good dechlorinator will take care of that. all the "stability" is actually in the substrate and decor.
I would imagine patching a liner on a pond is much like patching a liner on an above ground pool. Check out any pet shop that has pond supplies and i can guarantee they sell a patch kit.
If you actually have to take the fish out of the pond, be sure to take ANYTHING that has been submerged with them.. rocks, gravel, plants etc.. i could go on for an hour about the nitrogen cycle and the ecosystem that takes place in a pond but i wont...
