What did your Dr say about cold cuts
went to my dr today and he told me no colds AT ALL! I have been heating them up and he looked at me like I had 10 heads. I *think* its because it could be a lawsuit for him if he says its ok, just heat them and I don't heat them well enough and i get sick or something happens, so its better to cover his @ss and just say no. What did your dr say about them?
I'm not looking for drama just looking to see how everyone's dr looks at this

Re: What did your Dr say about cold cuts
My OB said to try and stay away from them.
My cousin, who eats them daily, spoke to her OB about it and he said that as so long as you go to a reputable deli that moves the cold cuts and you eat them within 2 days of buying them it's fine.

Re: What did your Dr say about cold cuts
My doctor had told me that if I purchased them pre-packaged from a commercial brand that pre-cooks them, then it's ok. He just didn't want me getting them from a deli counter. I still would stick them in the microwave for 30 seconds... worked for me... I liked to melt cheese on them anyway.
You have to do what you're comfortable with. I tried to listen to my doctor for everything. I did have a tuna steak once during my PG and told him after and he said "ok, but no more" (because of the mercury).

my doctor said the one to be slightly concerned about is turkey. For the rest he said not to worry and also believes in everything in moderation.

Re: What did your Dr say about cold cuts
Mine said no to cold cuts and anything in the deli case such as salads etc. Said especially not from a non-reputable place as it can sit there open for weeks and is a listeria risk. I never touched cold cuts with DD. With this pregnancy I have once or twice..

Mine said no freshly sliced cold cuts unless I nuke them for 30 seconds. Anything packaged is fine.

Re: What did your Dr say about cold cuts
I honestly never asked because I didn't plan to eat them. To me, cold cuts are not a "everything in moderation" type of situation like tuna fish or caffeine. You could eat one cold cut one time and get listeria. I know the chances are slim, but God forbid, I would never forgive myself. I can certainly go through 9-10 months without cold cuts for the health of my baby. Sure, I miss them like h*ll, but it's just not worth it in my opinion.

My doctor basically said the same thing, although he did comment on them specifically because I mentioned them. He said to have the cold cuts with nitrates in moderation. He seemed more concerned over nitrates than listeria.

Re: What did your Dr say about cold cuts
my dr. was like if you have to eat it, then heat it up otherwise if you can avoid and I take that as everything in moderation.

Dr told me no cold cuts too... I do know someone who got listeria from cold cuts when she was pregnant too so I just stay away from it.

Doctor said they are fine as long as bought from reputable, busy deli and they are fresh. I eat them often. No heating.

Am I the only one who finds it totally strange that each dr. has a such a differing opinion???
That alone makes me question how bad it really could be!
