Weight gain..

So I'm 22 weeks and I have gained 28 lbs!

ahhh I'm embarrassed to admit it. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I really don't eat that bad...I do have some sweets here and there, and probably have more pizza than I should but I crave pizza and pasta.

The first trimester I gained like 15 lbs because I was always sick and carbs was the only thing that made me feel better.

My dr hasnt said anything yet, but I'm worried this isn't good. I dont think I look HUGE. I definitely have gained in my thighs and arms a bit, and of course my belly and BOOBS! hahah

I feel like I'm going to gain 50 + lbs by the end. Im going to say something to my dr next appt.

Anyone else in the same boat as me?

Any tips? I eat healthy for the most part...really only drink water and some juice...one iced tea or soda every once in awhile

Re: Weight gain..

Everyone gains weight at different rates. If your dr isn't concerned with the gain then don't stress too much. If you know that you aren't eating bad and doing what you feel is right for you and the baby, then stick with it. I freaked in the beginning as well cause I gained more weight in the 1st trimester than I thought that I would. But my dr isn't concerned and said everything looks good. That's good enough for me! Try not to worry about the gain. Everyone is different, some gain alot in the beginning and then it tapers off in the end and some don't gan in the beginning and gain it all at the end. Ilost all my gain and then some in about 2 weeks. I know it's easier said than done, but I wish I didn't worry so much after all!

I'm 25w and I've gained about 20-25 myself, I go to the DR tonight and I'm DREADING what he says Chat Icon I don't eat crazy either and it seems like I'm carrying big. I know that weight gain is normal, but when people tell me not to worry about it's hard. ESP when I read these RIDICULOUS STUPID articles in the tabloid mags...Back to my PRE baby weight, I'm in better shape after my baby, how she got so fit so fast blah blah blah its infuriating! And I know I shouldn't pay attention but its hard.

I'm hoping now that its nicer out I can start walking after dinner or just do something at least.

Re: Weight gain..

I gained about 30 pounds by the end of my second trimester. I had no idea either because I was not looking at the scale. I figured if there was a problem the doctor would let me know. What I didn't realize was that he would end up letting me know after it was too late.Chat Icon . I had such a breakdown at my 26 week appointment. I felt like such a failure as a preggo. I started being really strict about what I ate and ended up losing 4 pounds by the next appointment. Now in my 3rd trimester, I am back to my regular eating habits (I try to make good choices but I indulge in cravings whenever they come - which is often). I have to say that I have hardly gained anything in my 3rd trimester. My weight gain really slowed down. I was so afraid I would gain 60 pounds (which is the rate I was going at according to my dr) but I am still up about 35 pounds total with about 6 weeks to go. I was thin to begin with so I'm trying not to stress too much over it. I honestly think that everyone is different. You are supposed to gain about a pound a week in the third trimester and that has not been the case for me.

Bottom line, as long as you know that you are not going overboard with unhealthy choices, then you are fine and your body is going to do what it needs. That's the advice given to me by many of the lovely ladies on this board back when I was in your position and I can honestly say, they were 100% right.

Also, water weight has A LOT to do with it. I noticed when I "got in trouble" that I was so swollen. I drank a lot of water and that really seemed to help too.

I have gained 18lbs so far and I feel like my legs are getting big. I also noticed after a weekend of salty food that I gained 4lbs. I drank a bunch of water and I went back down to where I was before. I think being pregnant we retain water a lot more frequently especially if you have something high in sodium. I went walking on Monday and plan to go again today. I can't lie, I have been really lazy. So now that it's nicer out I hope to get outside and do a lot of walking and hopefully that will help.

Im almost 21 weeks and Ive gained about 20-25 punds also. Im going to figure some of that weight has to do with the boob growth at least, they are HUGE. My Dr hasnt said anything and when I asked him at 16 weeks about people thinking Im further along beause I look bigger than I "should be" (learned very quickly that peole dont have filters) he asked if these people were doctors and said they basically dont know what they are talking about and that I was fine. Im eating basically the same way I was before I was pregnant, I havent been stuffing my face with ice cream or cookies, so unless he tells me otherwise, Im not going to worry about it.

Re: Weight gain..

Im only at 9w and I have already gained 5-7 pounds, which is way more than what I thought I "should" have gained. My mom mentioned yesterday that she carried big with both of her pregnancies and she (unlike me) was always a skinny minny. Everyone's body is different.

Like the other posters said as long as you are not going crazy, eating unhealathy and your doctor hasnt said anything, I wouldnt worry. I keep tellingmyself, now is not the time to diet. But I did get motivated to start going to the gym 3-4 times a week just to do some cardio and also will try to get hubby to go for walks at night, except that we are so busy that that seems impossible but I digress...

Dont stress, just be healthy and give in to cravings when you must =)

Re: Weight gain..

Thanks girls. Everyone says it doesn't look like I gained too much, but I don't know if they are being nice hahahah

I am trying to walk more now and got a salad with grilled chicken for lunch instead of pizza today! I will try to pay attention more with my eating habits, but I guess I can't let it freak me out too much, especially if my dr hasnt said anything.

Thank you
