who is perinatologist? do you need one only if you are high risk? should OB be your perinatologist, i.e. is it the same person? can perinatologist be affiliated with a different hospital then ob? ugh.. confused

Re: perinatologist?
My perinatologist was recommended to me by my OB. My ob said, well if you are having twins you are going to the perinatologist so they can monitor the babies. My understanding is that your OB will monitor you and the perinatologist will monitor baby/ies.
Good Luck

Re: perinatologist?
when i was diagnosed with GD my OB referred me to a high risk dr. i never asked if he was affiliated with the hospital but im assuming any connection he needs would be ok since my doc referred me to him.
i see my ob how i normally would and ive been meeting the high risk once a month to monitor the GD

Re: perinatologist?
A perinatologist is a high risk obstetrician.
If you are classified as high risk, you see a peri in conjunction with your regular OB. They are not the same person. You might go for special tests or monitoring by a peri and they will send the info to your regular OB, who will continue to be the one who eventually delivers your baby.
I have seen a peri the entire pregnancy because I have type 2 diabetes.
