Babies with Acid Reflux (GERD)
My 1 month old son was diagnosed on Monday with acid reflux and an allergy to the proteins found in cow's milk. At the time I was breastfeeding and also supplementing once (sometimes twice) a day with formula. I was told that unless I want to restrict my diet to eliminate all dairy product it was not recommended I continue breastfeeding, which I was okay with. I'm a vegetarian and have such a restricted diet as is....I couldn't imagine limiting it even further! So DS is now on Nutramigen Lipil by Enfamil and is taking .5ml of Axid 3x a day. It definitely seems to be helping and he is spitting up far less then he was prior to the change. The only thing I don't like is that the Nutramigen stinks.....the smell is just awful, but DS has no issue drinking it! lol I'm also positioning his upright when he is being fed and also for about 30-45 min after he eats to help with the digestion.
Just curious what you are doing for your LOs who have reflux.....

Re: Babies with Acid Reflux (GERD)
That stuff does smell. But not as bad as Elecare.... DS had a milk protein allergy and reflux. He slept in his napper in his pack and play for the first 6 weeks. He also spent a lot of time in his bouncy seat and swing for naps and bed.. Keeping him elevated while sleeping will help ease the reflux. DS is now 18 months and still needs his night dose of Axid because he lays flat while sleeping. As long as he isn't showing signs of being in pain with the reflux, he should be fine...

Re: Babies with Acid Reflux (GERD)
He hasn't shown any real pain, just used to arch his back and make sour faces when eating sometimes.....But he's a pretty mellow baby so it's hard to tell if it's hurthing him or not. I'm just glad it's working and can suck up the smell of the formula/poop if it's going to make him feel better.

Re: Babies with Acid Reflux (GERD)
all of my boys had reflux...its terrible to watch, you feel so bad....my first two were on prevacid...they tried zantac, axid, prevacid...and they also had cereal in their bottle...my youngest was put on zantac about 2 weeks ago...at first it was working great, but the last 2 days have been bad, that I started him on cereal in his bottle today....I just have a feeling that we are going down the same path as the boys (all 3 of my had milk allergies as well...2 were placed on elecare)
For relux, put everything on an incline...even the changing table...ds#2 slept in the gliding seat for the first 3 months....
Good luck

my son doesnt cry from the reflux either...but you can totally see it and hear it happening...sometimes it comes flying out, sometimes it stays in his mouth

DD is on the same formula and medicine. As much as the formula stinks dd has no problem drinking it & it has made such a difference in her! So just deal with the nasty smell.. lol You learn to get use to it, Now dd is 6 months and i dont even notice the smell any more.

We used the similac sensitive for spit up. It has the added rice starch and less lactose.

DS is always in the upright position, he was just put on Zantac, and other than that, not much
