GHI--insurance
Does anyone know if I have to contact them and let them know I am pregnant or does the doctor's office ususally do that for you? The same for delivery purposes?

Re: GHI--insurance
I have GHI for medical but Empire BCBS for Hospital, I never notified GHI that I was pregnant but I did call Empire to get pre-approval for when I would be in the hospital and I'm glad I did bc they have to pre-approve you otherwise they can deny your claim.
They asked me a bunch of questions and then approved me for "x" number of days if I went vaginally or c-section. I only had to pay our deductible.

Yes that is what I have....when should I be calling them? What did they ask you? Do you know how I would find out about a private room in the hospital?

I called Empire about a month before my DD to let them know I was having a baby, they asked a bunch of questions about when my LMP was, if there were any complications so far, if it was my 1st pregnancy, etc....nothing too personal.
As far as a private room, ask them if they cover this. I didn't ask bc my hospital said they charge the ins. co. the same for a private or shared room -- I ended up getting a private room bc my dr. requested it for me and Empire paid for it in full -- The only thing I have to pay is my deductible...they covered it all.

Wow that worked out great for you. I guess I still have some time before I call Empire and I guess I will have to speak to my doctor at my next visit and ask her how they usually go about requesting a private room Thanks for all the info.
