overseas travelers who are seasoned pros at this
What is a good (and inexpensive) place to travel to in the fall? I'm looking for fair weather and an "off peak" time.

Thats a pretty tall order, lets narrow your search down. Do you want a city break? Beach holiday? Asia? Europe? Caribbean? Couples holiday? Child friendly?
Maybe we can help you more, if we know more!

October is still expensive there. November is beautiful as well though and a bit cheaper. London is less expensive and you could do a day trip to Paris.

I'd second Italy, definitely. Barcelona is nice in the fall and it is kind of off-season since they are a port city. Vienna, Paris, South of France?

Re: overseas travelers who are seasoned pros at this
thanks all! I investigated a lot of areas and it seems Italy and France were pretty reasonable for fall. Ireland was also super cheap, but already have been there.

November... not good for Northern Europe.
It's windy, raining and cold.
Paris, London are great in late Spring/Summer/Early Fall.
Other than that, go to Southern Europe.

Did I mention the weather in Paris was absolutely magnificent when it was supposed to be rainy?
OP, I just got back from Paris and I used to live in Rome so ask away!

I am all about South America! Went to Argentina in February and it was AMAZING! I've also read that the fall is a good time to go to Peru.

Re: overseas travelers who are seasoned pros at this
LOVED LOVED LOVED Peru. We went there in the end of August. It was inexpensive and beyond amazing. We did a little of everything-- went to the Amazon rainforest (both in Peru and Bolivia by boat), Cusco, Late Titicaca (sp?), and hiked Machu Picchu. I remember there were flooding problems by machu picchu though last year or the year before. It was by far my favorite vacation. One day we hired a driver (for like 100-200 bucks) for the day and he drove us anywhere we wanted so he drove us to the border and then another driver picked us up at the other side after we crossed and we drove around Bolivia for a while and then went back to our hotel (it sounds scary but it was all arranged through our hotel, a Libertador, and it all felt safe). FM me with any questions.
BTW- weather was great! IT was their dry season i believe. I was in t-shirt and jeans practically the entire trip
