Kitchen Spruce up Suggestions

We are in the process of closing on a co-op and the kitchen can use a little updating. It was recently done but on the cheap and really not our taste. We don't want to invest a lot into the property because we don't plan to stay more then 5 years. I'm thinking granite counter tops (i know someone to do it all for 2k with title backsplash), change hardware, paint, and new flooring. What colors would work and make it look more modern. I really hate the cabinets but I think it would be costly to reface.

ETA: It's a galley kitchen with 2 doorways. And you can't see it in the photo but the fridge is all the way on the right .

Re: Kitchen Spruce up Suggestions

I would change the hardware, re-paint in a lighter shade to open up the room.. I wouldn't go too dark with the countertops and would probably do a nice white subway tile as a backsplash

Changing the hardware will make it look completely different.

I agree with changing the hardware. I would also look into adding crown molding to the top of the cabinets. I think it will give it a finished look.

My first thought, exactly. Maybe a brighter paint color too.

Re: Kitchen Spruce up Suggestions

I would:

-change hardware to something more substantial (maybe oil rubbed bronze with the half moon pulls on the bottom drawers - I have this, look in my home album)

-add white crown molding to the top of the cabinets

-paint the walls (maybe a green)

-add an inexpensive backsplash like subway tile

-change the light fixture

-change the blinds, maybe bamboo roman shades?

I wouldn't:

-change the countertops (they look nice, new and clean)

I agree - I would definitely change the hardware and paint the walls a color.

Also, changing the light fixture would also really change the look of the room (and give a lot of bang for your buck).

I wouldn't go TOO high end and invest a lot of $ because co-ops can be tough to sell and largely appeal to first time home buyers. So you don't want to overspend and never be able to recoup.

If you can do the countertops/backsplash inexpensively because you have a connection, and because you will enjoy it while you live there, go for it! But defnitely pick and choose your projects with a co-op carefully!

Your House Reno's are AMAZING!!!!!!! I wish DH and I had talent like that!!
How can they add crown molding to the cabinets? I wasn't aware this could even be done.
