Re: A tiny little PSA about diapers (and why you should stock up when you see sales now)
Sandra... GREATTTT ADVICE!!!
Am fortunate enough to still be at Size 1 with DD since I have soo many... But it doesn't hurt to STOCK UP and save receipts to then return if baby does not fit them.. But a SALE is a SALE and we as mothers will be buying pampers for quiet a LONG time..
ETA: If the advice doesnt fit you than skip the post!! It might be a good advice for someone who needs it.. SMH

Re: A tiny little PSA about diapers (and why you should stock up when you see sales now)
I dont really think you should stock up on diapers because you may think that one type of diaper is working good for you, then all of a sudden they start leaking or something. We started with pampers then went to huggies and now are using luvs which seem to work best for us. But def keep an eye out for those coupons! I used nb size diapers for a couple of weeks then dd grew out of them. She was 7lbs 9oz when she was born and left the hospital an ounce heavier!

Re: A tiny little PSA about diapers (and why you should stock up when you see sales now)
IMO it depends on what kind of sale we're talking about. $5 off two boxes or a $10 BRU gc is totally run of the mill so I'm not running out there to stock up for the reasons previous posters mentioned. However, the amazon codes and a few other MAJOR sales I saw I DID stock up and just made sure I got larger sizes- even it meant 2 boxes each of the next 3 sizes, kwim?
My son was in nb for about a week. He was born 6.13 so not "big" but remember it's not always about the perfect fit. He was a quantity type of guy and the 1s just held it in better. We pretty much blew through 1,2, & 3 bt have been on 4 for like 5 months now. My friend's dd who is a year older is only in a size 5 so for the big sales I would keep that in mind and buy for the future instead of the first 9 months.
I know cloth diapering is better for the environment but imho that really has nothing to do with what the OP was trying to say

really??
tallying up the amount spent on diapering? someone offers a cheap alternative?
I did not know anything about cloth diapers until this board...some people like to learn from others...maybe you won't use cloth, but a pregnant mom who is worrying about future costs of diapers might.

Oh Sandra. Dont worry. We ALL SHOUDL KNOW that it was coming from nothing but a good place. And while i agree to stock up while you can. If its not for you then just move onto another thread. Not everything has to be a battle. Geez. I also think if you do stock up & its not for the baby then there is always a thing called RETURNS. lol

I think she was just saying that sometimes advice related to cloth diapering comes off as preachy

I edited my original post. I didn't mean to upset anyone or give bad advice. I'm really just trying to help. Sorry. I'm definitely no expert and probably should just be banned from the pregnancy board since I'm not even pregnant anymore. Although Monday it'll be exactly 1 year since my BFP. Life moves at the speed of light.
you have been SO helpful on this board, don't leave

I know some daycares do take on the task of cloth...I believe snowflake on parenting does this... I know opheila uses them part time..which also makes a difference.
As far as detergent...I am on my second bottle of all free and clear and it has been 14 mos...so I am not to concerned with the chemicals.
Also, diaper factories use tons of water and chemicals to produce the number of disposables out there.
It really can't compare to my washing machine.
You should look into No Impact Man. He goes into depth about the enviromental impact.
You figure part time cloth diapering will cut your child's landfill pile in half.
This is a very stupid question but I have to ask.
How do you wash cloth diapers with #2 in it?

I don't cloth diaper so I'm def not preaching-but had the same though when the OP stated she had used over 1K diapers. I can see why it was brought up.

Re: A tiny little PSA about diapers (and why you should stock up when you see sales now)
as a mom who got ZERO diapers at my shower (i was shocked) and then ran out and bought WAY too many before DS was born ... do not do it I gave away a ton of newborn and size 1 diapers, many LIF moms benefited from my overbuying
if you child is expected to be under 8lbs, id have a box of newborn and 1 box of size 1 and thats it.
places like diapers.com and amazon ship baby products next day or 2 days for FREE (if you are worried about running out to get diapers with a newborn )

Re: A tiny little PSA about diapers (and why you should stock up when you see sales now)
For us that made no sense to do. We ended up switching from Pampers to Luvs because it was so much cheaper. Plus all babies grow at different rates, my DS flew through all the smaller sizes and has been in size 5 diapers for months and months.

Re: A tiny little PSA about diapers (and why you should stock up when you see sales now)
EBF babies-just toss right in washing machine. Jessie started pooping on toliet at 6 mos old after I scraped my first real poopy diaper.
If I don't catch her, then I have a spatula, scrape into toliet. others use liners.
Definitely preachy...This is the one issue I don't have to be PC about.

it was a GREAT tip! if someone sees a box of size 3's on clearance, pick them up.

See I really can't see myself doing this. It sounds really cost effective and of course it is good for the enviroment, but I just can't imagine doing it mulitple times a day. That is a commitment IMO, good for you for doing it, I mean it, I just don't think I am cut out for that.

Re: A tiny little PSA about diapers (and why you should stock up when you see sales now)
thankfully after she started eating solids, she is a once a day pooper....so for the 30 seconds of possible scraping each day-i just go with it.
i read too much about the benefits to turn back now
