Please help me with my registry

If you don't mind, can you wonderful ladies check out my registry and let me know if I'm missing some important things...Also, let me know if I have too much of something (or not enough), or if somethings are a waste.

I'm not done...planning on adding/deleting/changing some things, but I did get a big chunk down yesterday.

BBB- JACKIE MICHELLI

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

Some things I'm debating:
-Do I need a diaper pail? I have heard the Diaper Genie is a waste.

-Do I need a monitor? We live in a small one bedroom apt..

-Do i need a pack and play? Planning on the baby sleeping in FP rock and play and/or crib right away. Again, small apt, trying to save space.

**I have to take off one of the citi-minis. I'm trying to figure out which color...slate, red, black, or black and green!

Re: Please help me with my registry

I would say get rid of one of the packages of wash cloths, we probably got like 30 at our shower for some reason, i know some people get a lot of bibs we got a lot of wash cloths. However, I would add another towel.

I would add more sheets. They are something good to have on hand. I think we have like 5.

You should register for changing pad covers, those Bobby things will help but having a spare cover is always good.

If you are planning to breastfeed I'd switch from the boppy to the my brest friend. It gives you much more support.

It took me a while to get mine at a good place but we too live in a one bedroom and have managed to find the space for everything we got...

I'll FM you my registry info if you want to look at it too.

Re: Please help me with my registry

Thank you!!!! I appreciate it! I was debating between the Boppy and my Brest Friend, but figured the Boppy is good because the baby can sit in it and have tummy time, but support is important!

Thanks again.

Definitely registering for more sheets...I just didn't like everything there...It's like they force you to go pink for girls...I like some pink, but like purples too! I'm going to look online and see if there is more of a selection for sheets.

Re: Please help me with my registry

I love looking at registries!

I see you have the cocoa sorbet high chair on your registry! I have the cocoa sorbet bouncer for DD and I *LOVE* it. I'd suggest putting that on too. It's great to have another spot to put her down that isn't her bed (the FP newborn rock n play sleeper is her bed). She's 4 months today and now plays with the little hanging toys on the bouncer and really likes it! At first she just kinda hung out in it. I actually can lift her up and bring her into other rooms while in it (like the kitchen when I'm making dinner or the bathroom when I'm showering) so it's very convenient.

I have the same boppy (I got it one day at Bed Bath & Beyond for 1/2 price -- first pregnancy purchase I made lol) but the slipcover on it is actually very rough. I would put another boppy cover on your registry (there are some that are extremely soft on one side and normal cotton on the other, which is what I have).

Just FYI: you can't use an auto mirror in the car behind the baby or it is dangerous if there is an accident. The way an infant car seat works (or any rear-facing car seat) is to protect the baby by forming a turtle shell around them and flipping up towards the seat in an accident. If you have a mirror there, the baby will hit into it and it's no longer the soft seat material to protect them. The seats are not crash-tested or rated with a mirror behind the baby. So I'd take that off.

Do you want a mobile for the crib? DD loves staring at ceiling fans so we got one.

What about a white noise machine? The HomeMedics soundspa one is great (and about $20) and also shows a simple slide on the ceiling that turns that can be very entertaining for a nb/infant.

You need burp cloths -- put the aden & anais ones on your registry. They are AWESOME. I had 2... then 4... now 7 of them. They also have a snap on them so you can use them as bibs. I snap two together and put them around my neck as a burp cloth adult bib sometimes so the burp cloth doesn't fall off my shoulder during feedings.

Wubbanub pacifier dolls. They're fabulous!!!

I'd skip the fleece sleep sacs. DD was born in the dead of winter and we still didn't use any fleece on her. It's just way too warm. A&A makes muslin sleep sacs that are very nice and breathable material if you think you need more sleep sacs.

Instead of the boppy waterproof liners, I'd get some regular rectangular shaped ones. I use those on the changing pad instead of the small boppy ones. Also, you can use them on someone's rug or even couch (they're like 2' x 3' big) as a changing table when you're out. I also put them on public changing tables under the changing pad from my diaper bag to make it a little more sanitary. In general, I'd put more waterproof pads.

What about a small portable changing pad kit to throw in the car?

High chair / shopping basket cover.

Diaper pail (we have the diaper champ -- great 'cause it uses regular garbage bags).

Moby wrap or baby bjorn carrier. The moby is so much easier on my back, but the baby bjorn is way simpler to snap together.

I think my amazon registry is still active -- I put a TON of stuff on there after she was born just to use as a shopping list if you'd like to see. FM me.

HTH!

We also live in a small one bedroom co-op so I can answer a couple of your questions....we did not need a monitor at all. I can hear DS at all times! It's not a necessity at all! We did not get a diaper genie, we just used the scented bags (available at BBB and BRU) and they work fine. We did not need a pack and play for DS, we just had the FP lamb seat and his crib but I do have a pack and play at my mom's as I spend a lot of time there. Good luck and your registry looks great!

Sandra, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That helped me sooo much! I'm going to make some changes later.

I want a mobile, but I'm not sure which one. Thanks for the noise suggestion. I wanted something like that too. I read somewhere that too much white noise is bad for them? Anyone know about that?

I didn't know that about the mirror on the infant seat! I wasn't even planning on getting that, but the woman at BBB said it's really good to have.

Re: Please help me with my registry

Going to type this as I'm going through it.

Sleepsacks - see if you can register for a large, too. You will be using them for a while, they're great. Make sure you're registering for the right time of year.

Pacifiers - be careful on those, your child will choose which one s/he likes. I had a thousand of those soothies and he decided he liked MAM.

Towels - definitely add more than one. I'm sure you're not doing laundry that often in the beginning, you'll be exhausted!

Changing pad covers - register for 2, minimum so one can be in the wash. You may want 3 in case of an accident.

Sheets - definitely have at least 3 sheets.

Car seats - if you have 2 cars, register for another base for the snugride and another convertable.

Stoller - are you getting 2 strollers or deciding on color?

Mobile - Please, for the love of God, register for the Tiny Love mobiles. They work for like 20 minutes and have a remote in case baby still isn't sleeping.

Monitor - so get a monitor. You will want to see baby even if you can hear baby. I promise.

Diaper pail - I love my diaper pail. I got the one, damn, what's it called...not the genie because it needed refills, the other. Holds smells great and I only change it once a week with regular garbage bags!

Re: Please help me with my registry

What about a bouncy seat, swing, exersaucer and/or jumperoo

another snugride base

another convertible

yes i would get a video monitor

get a basic pac and play if you go places a lot

imo - take off all of the receiving blankets and the thermal blanket and just keep the aden & anais ones - imo you had more than you will ever need on there and you couldnt even imagine how many you will get at your shower

definately put the white noise machine and if you want a mobile get the tiny love - i hear they are great

i would put another sheet and definately 2 more towels

Re: Please help me with my registry

Definitely get a monitor, even though your in a small apartment you're gonna want it.

More Burp clothes. I actually use the Gerber cloth diapers LOVE them! Big and absorbent.

A mobile with a remote is key!

PNP is not a necessity in the beginning unless you will be traveling. Get it later on.

FYI: The Bobby changing pads stink. They roll up after you wash them and never stay flat again. Just get the Gerber waterproof pads like pp said. Those are great!

Mb a bouncy seat or swing. I know you said you're tight on space but you will want another place to put the baby down. My DS used to sleep in his bouncy. Pick one out that had music and lights bc the ones that don't the babies get tired of. I have the FP Ocean Wonders and its great!

Honestly I never had a diaper pail bc the thought of them grosses me out but friends of mine have, and those that live in apartments regretted using it bc when they would empty it it would stink up the whole garbage area Chat Icon ! Something to think about....I use the bags and I think those work great!

I would also add some books, or DVD's for when baby is older. Its less $$$ you will be spending later on. Also feeding supplies: bowls, spoons, snack bowls, sippy cups. They all add up!!

HTH!

diapers/wipes

humidifier

where did you read/hear about this? i didnt know about that.

We went to the firehouse near us to have our seat inspected and to learn how to install it properly and the lieutenant who did our inspection is certified in infant safety. He told us this. He also said you always have to have the "arm"/handle of the seat all the way down when driving (otherwise it stops the seat from doing its job) and that you cannot have anything hard inside the seat with the baby (toys, bottles, etc) and never to use a mirror in the path of the seat. He said you can put the mirror in the seat next to the baby and try to angle it if you want, but not to have it directly behind the baby. He also said you can't use anything that goes under the baby while in the seat because the baby could slide, nor nothing under the seat on the car seat because the seat could slide. Our car seat didn't come with arm pads or head pads, so he told us to roll up a towel or blanket and use that in a U shape around the baby's heat while she was very tiny (we used the aden & anais swaddler blankets for that and it worked great).

As far as which mobile, we also have the Tiny Love one and DD loves it:

https://www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?WRN=-1153201131&SKU=15920670&

That activity mat you have on your registry seems expensive, but I guess it has a lot of bells and whistles? We have a FP one that I don't see online anymore but I got at a consignment sale for $15. The bottom sheet was washable so I stuck it in the washing machine (mirror and all!) and I hung my own toys on it that I also stuck in the washing machine. It has a little bird that swings on top and plays music and lights flash. They're really wonderful once they want to be looking up at things, and now at 4 months she grabs everything and yanks on it (I'm afraid she won't be able to use it too much longer, actually).

I only use the white noise machine for daytime naps. DD sleeps in our room with us in her FP sleeper still and we don't want it at night lol. I actually have the mobile hanging on her PnP in our room -- we originally thought she'd sleep in that in our room, but she liked the FP sleeper much better. Eventually I plan to move her to her room. The top piece of the mobile detaches easily so you can use the bottom for its music or even as a nightlight later on when they get too big for a mobile.

We also have the turtle that shines stars on the ceiling. We haven't used it yet, but my brother was all about getting her stuff to look at because when he came to visit when she was about 6 weeks old, she just loved looking at the ceiling fans. He thought she needed proper toys to look at lol.

You'll also need a lot of little stroller hanging toys -- like the lamaze brand toys. Things you can hang above them and they pull on or crinkle and eventually can chew on when they start to teethe. I registered for a set of Pooh toys on amazon that came with a hanging pooh bear and also this book that hangs and crinkles. I put it on the activity mat and DD LOVES using her feet to kick it and crinkle it so much!

External Image

Oh, this is the set:
External Image

The baby einstein toys are great too, especially the take along tunes (top right of pic).

External Image

You're also going to want soft balls or blocks with tags on them to play with. I got a rattle baseball at BRU for like $5 and it's possibly her favorite toy (or maybe mine lol). The handle is also great because she could grab it pretty early on. Now I throw it at her and say "catch!" and sometimes it hits her in the face and bounces off and sometimes she sticks up her hands to block it. She always laughs a ton when we play that game.

External Image

Oh, and wipes. You will need lots and lots and lots of wipes.

I love baby stuff lol. I wish I'd known more when I created my registry. I got some things I hardly use and needed to buy a ton of stuff myself I didn't even think about needing before she was born!

WOW, you girls are the best! Notebooking this and will be adding/deleting later today.

I do want to add a bouncer and probably a jumper.

Thanks Rita, for the stroller selection.

I cant access it at work, but it's a mistake that I have two citi-minis and two crib attachment thingys.

Thanks for all of the amazing suggestions. You all rock!

I think your registry looks great, here are some suggestions:

Register for some onsies, especially side snap to use for the first couple of weeks and then register for regular snap onsies as well.

I read that you should register for two different brands of starter sets for bottles so if the baby doesn't like one you have another option. If they take to your top choice you can exchange the other set that you don't need.

I registered for the same Boppy pillow, I love the pattern and think it's sooo cute!

Add a couple more hooded towels. I wouldn't put too many. I see a lot of hooded towels being scanned on my registry that I did not register for. So it seems like a cute extra that people like to pick up.

A second convertible seat if you have two cars and another base for the snugride.

Re: Please help me with my registry

I would get a monitor...the piece of mind it gives is priceless. Me have a very small house and I highly suggest the sony baby call 900 if you're looking for a non-video and cheap one. LOVE IT!!

I COULD NOT live without my diaper genie. I LOVE IT! Buy the 3pack of them on Amazon mom for a REALLY good price!

I have no suggestion on a pnp, but I would suggest it over the newborn rocker thing only because if you buy a PNP with the newborn sleeping thing and changer you'll get more bang for your buck as the baby gets older. You can't use that newborn thing for a 1yr old, but you can use a pnpChat Icon

I suggest 2-3 newborn sleep sacks and 2-3 small or medium sleep sacks. You can always wait until baby is bigger for the bigger size. It sounds like space is an issue so ask for things you need NOW not in the future. I, honestly, would wait on the conv. carseat. My dd didn't go into hers until she was 10mon old. Where would you store 1 or 2 for 10-12months?

I suggest 3-5 sheets. I know it's a lot but you'll get your money's worth esp if you have a conv. crib. You would rather have to many then not enough..Trust meChat Icon

I suggest 3-5 changing pad covers as well and you don't need to waste money on special toys or things. Use a recieving blanket folded in half over the cover and you have a "pad" if there is an accident and it's a nice way to use up some blankets. I never used mine much, but it was winter so we used real blankets the most.

I also suggest NOT registering for bath products. I know a lot of people do, but every baby is different. I had a TON of J&J stuff only to find out it dryed my DD's skin out BAD. I seriously had a years worthChat Icon I found that Aveno baby was all that worked for my DD. With this new baby I want to try Burt's Baby Bees. I will get the VERY small trial pack of that

I also suggest a bouncer/swing. I believe FP makes a combo one. DD LOVED her hoppy days bouncer and her My Little Lamb Swing, but the swing is big.

I hope this helps!

I got both convertibles at my shower and i just returned them. I am holding on to the store credit for when it is time. That way i dont have to come out of pocket $400 for them. They are only good for 5 years to so i wanted them to be as new as possible and it was also a way to not have to store them

That's a good idea, but honestly that money could go somewhere else is all i'm saying. If space is an issue register for what you need now and in the next 5-6months. The credit is good, but that is also diaper money and so on. Plus all the extras that just come up. I was shocked at how much money went out her 1st month home on unexpected thingsChat Icon Plus new seats are always coming out.
This is sorta snarky, and I apologize, but if I bought somebody a cov. carseat and found out they returned it for the store creedit I would be pisssed. Why not just ask for a gc instead of a seat, but then again I get annoyed at people who are Chat Icon and register for both bedding setsChat Icon I guess i'm weird, and here in MI we do things different.

Re: Please help me with my registry

Thanks girls. We only have one car, so we dont need 2 convertible carseats and dont need an extra base for the infant one.

We live in an apt upstairs in my parents' house, while we save for a house. So we can use my mom's basement for storage purposes if we need. My mom said it's fine..so the convertible carseat will go there.

I still want to register for things that we need NOW, because I don't want too much clutter in our small apt, and dont want to go crazy storing things in my parents' basement. Thanks again everyone..

I guess what I was saying is If I went to the store and bought you a conv. carseat just to find out you took it back to buy it later I would be annoyed. Those things are heavy and I bet it was wrapped or in a bag. It took more effort then just showing up, but If I would have known you wanted to wait I would have bought a gc for that product. Does that make sense? SOmeone went out if the way to get you something you registered for just to have you return it to buy it again later. Like I said I'm sorry if that sounds snarky, but IMHO that's just tacky.

Look I live in MI and it's not NY. A convertible car seat here is a gift a group gives or the parents give. Our showers are not that big and we don't get loads of stuff. Median gift price is maybe $30 pp.

Of course people return things and that's great, but IMHO if you purposefully add something to your registry with the intent of returning them for the store credit to use them later on, I find that tacky and rude.

I also disagree with them not being heavy. Mine was plenty heavy and weird to carry. This isn't a pisssing match just a different opinion.
