So for those of you that cruise
What's a good amount of OBC to get for a Jr Suite and what do you use it on?
ETA: OBC=On board credit

Re: So for those of you that cruise
I think it depends on the cruiseline. We usually use it towards drinks or towards paying our gratiuties at the end of the cruise.

Re: So for those of you that cruise
If you book with an American Express that can add additional OBC. I think the OBC depends upon 1. the size of your room, 2. if you are a repeat guest of the cruise line, 3. the TA you are using.
As for a dollar amount, I am not sure but I would want to pay the least amount for the cruise/room type and get the most OBC I could get.
We use the OBC for excursions, massages, dining at the extra restaurant, and tips. To me OBC upwards of 250 is nice if you have not booked another cruise and are in a balcony room. You can also get OBC for booking another cruise while you are on your current cruise. If you book another cruise I would expect $400+. If you are in a villa or penthouse, then I would expect more OBC.
As for room prices, what I do is look at the following year's sailing to see what the price is a year plus out. That is generally the least expensive price you will find for the cruise - not counting one day sales or specials. You can get other discounts for residency, age, military service, unions, etc.

Thanks so much! I'm such a researcher when it comes to booking vacations that we got a sick deal and a crazy amt of OBC's for this next cruise we're booking, but we are booking one suite and 2 balaconies so it's a larger group, but DH couldn't believe it.
We are booking WAYYYYYYY in advance, more so than we ever have, but I feel like the closer we get to it the less rooms they'll have and possibly the prices will go up...so DH has to go along with me

Did you use cruisecompete to book? I find that I get the best deals through a TA on there... I'm cruising this month and we got a crazy OBC of $150 for an inside room... Special deal through a TA... but my parents who got a balcony got the same OBC as us... So for them, thats a normal OBC for a balcony... but we ended up scoring big time...

I wouldnt book a cruise based on the amount of credit I got. I would only base in on the cruiseline and the ship I look at the OBC as a bonus.
ETA: We've gotten credits anywhere from $50-$200 it always depends on when we're cruising, where, what type of room etc.
I agree with Mazz 100% the best price you'll get will come from cruisecompete.com no one can touch their pricing.

I did great with cruisesnmore and was very satisfied! I got a great OBC as well for a balcony plus the 200 from RCCL. You don't use it for anything specific, it just comes off your "tab" at the end.

You most likely will lose it if you don't use it.
So make sure you use it - it can include all of your excursions, drinks, spa treatments, tips, anything you buy in the gift shops, all the little "extras" - if you are going to buy the soda packge, if you want espresso after dinner, if you want to make reservations at the specialty restaurants, go to Johnny Rockets, a bottle of wine at dinner, etc.
Also, I don't know which ship you are going on, but RCCL teamed up with Dreamworks Studios so on some of the newer ships they have the characters - I just took one in April so FM me if you have any questions!

Thx! We're going on Explorer of the seas, in March of 2012 So not sure if they did the dreamworks on that ship yet. Maybe they will by the time we go on the actual cruise
