anyone going to the carribean this year?
DH and I are about to book our babymoon to either St. Lucia or Barbados... but now I'm reading about an increase in Dengue Fever from mosquito bites so I'm nervous. Am I nuts???
ETA: I am also nervous about using repellent with DEET

Dengue resurge has been around for a few years now. I dont know if you're able to with the pregnancy, but look into mosquito spray options and you'll be fine.

just as a side note... some of the resorts in st. lucia are located in areas where there are no bugs (because of the volcanic rock/sulfur, as it was explained to us by a tour gide). not sure where you were thinking of staying but it may be something to consider if you're really concerned.

Re: anyone going to the carribean this year?
I went on a cruise to the Bahamas and Bermuda during my last pregnancy and didn't get bit at all and didn't use repellent either.
ETA: The only thing I'd really make note of for when you go is... depending on when you're there, it could be VERY hot. We went to the islands in July and it was brutal. I drank a lot of water and was going to the bathroom a lot!! I'm not saying it's a reason not to go.. just go prepared with lots of water and stay well hydrated!!
