Somewhat PR - any other city workers stay home today in light of yesterday's events?
My dad called me last night and insisted that I stay home today. Dh didn't agree or disagree. I'm not sure what difference it makes at this point, because now I am going to be paranoid every day that i travel to NYC. I called in sick to appease him and now my boss is p i s s e d! I was out last week on vacation and Mondays are such crazy days. Now all I can think about is how awful tomorow is going to be

definitely not. I don't see why - anything could happen on any given day. I'm sure your dad is just worried about you but I would never have considered staying home.

No, but I am scared to DEATH for DH because he does. I'm not going to make him stay home, but I cried last night.

I don't work in the city but my husband is NYPD and I'm terrified of him going into work. I am normally scared when he is at work, but I'm definitely more worried now.

I stopped working last Thursday. It certainly crossed my mind that that was good timing for me as I watched the news last night. Not saying I would have stayed home - just saying it crossed my mind.

i do not work in NYC nor does DH, but when DH told me the news my first instinct was to be nervous...not only NYC but anywhere in the united states.

We talked about it, but then figured that the likelihood of something happening today was slim, since this all just went down.
So sad that this is what we all think about

I really wanted to take the day off.
As a lirr/subway commuter, I am more nervous now than I was. But with only 4 weeks of work to go, I couldn't justify wasting a vacation/sick day on this specific situation.

i didnt but DH def mentioned it last night. he knows i would never stay home without good reason though, and im off tomorrow anyway so it really wasn't feasible to stay home out of fear. the fear isnt just going to go away in a few days anyway. can't stay home forever.

This was sort of my rational as well. I was off 3 days last week, im off this Thursday and next Monday am only working half a day bc we r going to closing on our house. Im only planning on working for the remainder of May and even though im not going back after the baby, I still can't justify sitting home today. I will admit that I am nervous now and probably will be up until my last day.

ITA, I live in the city and work in Times Square. I feel that they have bumped up security a lot around here, my life will not change at all and I'm not that worried.

No. I never gave it a thought. I think it's a great day of celebration and can't live in fear like that.

My husband has been working the past 3 months building the WTC Museum, I thought it was cool until today. In all honesty I'm hoping he gets switched to a different jobsite, he said there's an absorbent amount of police and military there now. He's fine with it but I'd just rather him somewhere else

Re: Somewhat PR - any other city workers stay home today in light of yesterday's events?
Nope, didn't think today would be any different than any other day. took the train as normal. Honestly, the chances of something happening today are no different than any other day
i think we're giving 'them' a bit too much credit here. It takes months and months of planning to pull off an attack. I think the people who live and work on US military bases around the world should (and are) be on heightened alert for attacks, and our troops may have to deal with some additional attacks. But i think in NYC, we're all in the same situation we were before he was killed

Re: Somewhat PR - any other city workers stay home today in light of yesterday's events?
Nah- no different than any other day in the city -
and honestly, just b/c he's dead - really? Big deal? it's been 10 freakin' years - God only knows the crap that they've been planning and the prodigies he's raisedin that time..........today is no different than any other day, and I don't spend my life in fear any other day either - IMO his death is symbolic for us - but that's about all .........it's really not going to have any major impact on anything else.

I'll admit I hate commuting when there is such breaking news, but we have to move forward and live life as usual.
