the site only opened in this past week or so...so how would there even be members?

I was told by them "There are 2 ways to join: you can be sponsored by an existing Member or you can request to Join and will be notified when space becomes available."

I had a simialr experice with another website. (Pinterest). I had to send a request to join & then 2 weeks later they accepted me & I was no longer interested.
