What constitutes a legal apt in Suffolk?
Was just wondering if anyone knows what constitues a legal vs illegal apartment in Suffolk?
If someone has all the proper COs for an extension on a home and claims the rental income on their taxes is that all that is needed to be considered legal?
Any info would be appreciated.

The town has to have it on their records as a legal apt. Even if you surpass every single code on the book for what an apartment needs, if it's not official with the town, it's not legal.

The Township has to declare it legal. So you will pay tax on the unit.
- Separate meters - electrical up to code - up to code on window/fire escape - fire/carbone monoxide alarm
If a homeowner does not pay tax, it's not legal.
