we are right on the corner of an "s" turn. the road is mildly busy but our house is set pretty far back.

last year and car misjudged a turn and took out one of our huge bushes before crashing into our big maple tree (thank God the tree was not damaged)

and when we arrived so start our Easter Weekend on thursday evening...

NO MAILBOX!!!!!!!

during a big rainstorm late at night, someone skidded on to our property making a turn from the opposite direction, and came clear across our lawn..taking out our mailbox AND shredded the huge tree stump in the center of the yard.

we cam home to the remains of the mail box, a bumper, a few pieces of tail lights and other debris.

thankfully the police left the guys info with our neighbor and the dude is going to replace our mailbox but seriously!!!!

what can we do about this??

we are actively considering building a ditch around the perimeter of the property but I think the town should do something.

this particular curve comes a few feet after a traffic light, but I think some either signage should be up.

anyone have any ideas? I cannot have cars careening onto my lawn at any given moment! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

There are no signs that there is a curve ahead or to reduce speed? Definitely try to get those signs up if not!!! That's scary! Chat Icon

I'd call the town about a guard rail..?

Also, this used to happen to a particular house on Round Swamp Road in Melville...they put up HUGE brick pillars with a gate . I'm assuming the town denied them a guard rail.

I'd get some yellow reflective markers and put them on the trees in the area towards your house. Or put them staked into the ground.

I have a house by me that built up a big mound of dirt on the corner of this property.

What about a VERY large rock?

It is very hilly and curvy up where I am, but I swear, it can happen anywhere! The stretch of street my house is on is very straight, and some kid (17-year old) wasn't paying attention, hit the curb on the right side of the street, over-corrected his turn and ended up careening across our lawn to the left, crashing into our two cars in the driveway.

His insurance covered the damage to both our cars and our property.

I'd consider some kind of a short brick wall.
