wondering if this has happened to anyone with positive results...

Went to the Dr today after I got a BFP last week...and based on my last AF I was guessing I was ~ 6 weeks pregnant..

well the sono showed a small little embryo and the dr said that it def wasnt the size of a 6 week embryo. even though that is what he origianally thought based on last AF.

He said that it is more like the size of a 4 week embryo.

He also said if I had regular cycles he would be more concerned - but since I have had issues (LOTS) with my cycles and I have NO IDEA how long my cycles are...he said that it is quite poss that everything will be ok and it is just very early on..

so as a precaution - he took blood today...and I have to go for blood BOTH wed and friday as well and if the levels go up..we are all good..but if they go down?!?!? we will cross that bridge when we come to it!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

So now I sit and wait to see how this week progresses...

This is going to be a looooong week!

Anyone have this happen to them!?!?!?

i was under the impression that you wouldn't even see an embryo at 4 weeks... so that in and of itself sounds like a good sign. hope everything works out for you! Chat Icon

If your cycles aren't regular, you have a good chance of being fine!! I know it's easier said than done but don't stress just yet!! I'll be praying for you!!

Having gone through IF treatments and 2 early MC, I am way to familiar with waiting for #'s to go up. As are many if us here.

All you can do is wait and it is always the longest hardest wait. Think positive and good luck.

That happened to me! According to my LMP, I would have been 8 weeks at my first visit, but I was measuring more like 6w5d. It was my first cycle off BCP, so I had no idea of my cycle length anyway. They had me come back for another sono 2 weeks later and I was on track with the measurements from the first one, so they adjusted my due date. I'm now 9.5 weeks and everything is great with the little one!

My dr said the embryo was small based on AF, but I knew when I ovulated - which was late in the cycle - so he felt much better about it and now I'm 26 weeks! So it could be OK - keep going for the bloodwork to keep an eye on it and ask if you should take progesterone supplements. (I was on them already because of luteal phase defect)

Re: wondering if this has happened to anyone with positive results...

I too have very irregular cycles. I was POAS regularly so I was able to estimate pretty accurately how far along I was, but my last period was not at all accurate for me.

At my first appt I would have been 11w based on LMP but based on sono measurements I was really only 7w! (consistent with when I got a BFP) When I went for a beta ~4w I was told that my numbers were "low" and that the pregnancy may not be viable because my OB refused to acknowledge that LMP isn't accurate for everyone. I'll be 23w on Wednesday (and switched OBs at 11w) and so far so good. I just ovulated late and had a long cycle!

I hope this is the case for you too. Seeing something on the sono is a good sign! Chat Icon

If your cycles are not regular you definitely have a perfectly fine chance of this being alright. Just hang in there and wait for those betas to double!

Why are you waiting until Wednesday and Friday for blood?

I have very regular cycles and DS#2 was measuring one week behind at 6 week sono.

He was born at 37.5 weeks at 10-8 pounds!

i had spotting around what would have been 7 weeks based nlast period when i was pregnant with ds but according the sonogram i was closer to only 5 weeks - they told me to just wait and see - it would either grow or not

everything was fine for my pregnancy - i had unusal cycles and so i just waited the 2 weeks till my next appointment where we saw the heartbeat - i went on to have a healthy son

Re: wondering if this has happened to anyone with positive results...

Going by the date of the last AF for everyone is crazy. That's assuming you ovulated on CD14... and not everyone does.

I see this happening a lot.... and it's so upsetting and scary to go through. So I'll never understand why dr's always try to use this measurement for all.

I KNEW when I ovulated because I was using the CBEFM... so I KNEW I ovulated on CD21 (def NOT CD14). When I went to the dr I told them I didn't know when my last AF was (I lied) but that I ovulated on CD21. My DD was calculated based on my ovulation date instead of my last AF date. Had my DD been calculated based off of AF, I would have been 1-2 weeks behind where I thought I was and I'd be a nervous wreck as well.

So hopefully this is the case with you.... and you just didn't ovulate on CD14... you ovulated later than that thus putting you behind where you should be.

I know it's hard to do, but try not to worry about it too much. It's completely out of your control. I'm sorry you are going through this.

Good Luck!!

Re: wondering if this has happened to anyone with positive results...

If you have long cycles, then I would bet you are just earlier than you thought. It happened to me.

My initial EDD was three whole weeks off because they kept basing it on my LMP. It was not until I had a sono at 8 wks (which they thought I should be 11) that they realized I just had a wacky month and my EDD needed to be adjusted accordingly.
