St. Catherines or St. Charles
I really wanted to deliver at Stony Brook but just found out they do not take my insurance. For those that have delivered at St. Catherines and/or St. Charles can you please tell me the positives and negatives of these two hospitals? Thanks!

my bff delivered at St charles and LOVED everything about it. she even said the food was great! I don't know anyone personally that delivered at st catherines but I have read good reviews here.
I would go with the one that is closer to your home/family because i think both are really good

Thank You!! I am leaning towards St. Charles.....I have been hearing more good things about them and they are a little closer to my place.

Re: St. Catherines or St. Charles
I delivered at St. Charles and my babies were in the NICU there for 6 weeks. I loved it there! All the nurses are great and they have a great breakfast buffet in the morning! Visiting hours are a little rough. It's 2-4 for grandparents and 7-8 for general. Babies aren't in the room. (Which IMO is better for the baby)
I have a friend that delivered at St. Catherine's. Not really sure how she felt about it but they do allow the baby in the room and don't really control the amount of people in the room either.

I delivered at St Charles as well. I had a great experience. The food was great, the nurses were great but the visiting hours were a little tough but like the OP said I think it is better for the baby.

I actually noticed this as well with my SIL. There were a lot of people in the room at one time and my nephew was in there being handed off to everyone. She did love it there though.
Although I have never personally delivered at St. Charles yet, that's where I will be delivering. I had several girlfriends deliver there and love it. We did our tour there and felt very comfortable.
Good Luck!

Re: St. Catherines or St. Charles
Loved, loved, loved St. Charles! Delivered both my kids there. Was just there for DS 2 birth and it was great. Even the food was good. With my first birth, DS was 10 weeks early and was in the NICU for 6 weeks. The NICU nurses were beyond amazing; those women will forever hold a special place in my heart. My nurrses were great too while I was there...they were very considerate about not giving me a roommate since my baby wasn't with me . The only downside is that you might have a roommate, unless u pay for a private room. Sharing a bathroom with a stranger skeeved me.

Re: St. Catherines or St. Charles
I know there was a thread the other day on St Catherine's and no one seemed to have anything good to say... My friend delivered there last Sept and was fine, no complaints, no raves. But even she knows girls who didn't have a good experience.

Re: St. Catherines or St. Charles
I delivered both my girls at St. Charles. I really liked it there. I loved all the nurses and the staff. I lucked out and didn't have a roommate either time. The food was pretty good but I wasn't very hungry after either of my c-sections.
My only complaint was that my veins are very hard to find and on my 2nd c-section I told the nurse this and asked for the anesthesiologist (sp?) to put in the IV and she didn't listen to me. She ended up collapsing a couple of my veins and one of them actually popped and I ended up with a HUGE painful bruise covering almost my entire forearm. I know I should have insisted on someone else doing it, but I didn't. That was the only negative for me during both stays there.

Re: St. Catherines or St. Charles
I delivered at both hospitals and I say St. Charles hands down. I delivered at St. Catherine's 2 years ago and had twins. Everyone was nice there, but I didn't like the shower in the hallway, the rooms were very run down, and I didn't like the million visitors and the baby in the room, it was very stressful for me. The food there wasn't good either. I also felt kind of ignored by the night nurses there.
I delivered at St. Charles 7 weeks ago and it was a lot better IMO. They really control the visitors and the visiting hours - and the baby is in the nursery during general visiting hours so you don't have to worry about anyone coming in sick or your baby being passed around. The food there was excellent, the rooms are a bit more modern, and there are showers in the rooms. All the nurses were very attentive and nice.
I had the same issue as you - wanted SB this time around but they don't take my insurance. I was so upset, but in the end up wound up very happy with St. Charles. If I was going to have another baby, I'd have no qualms about delivering there again.
