We went to Venice in Oct 09 and stayed at Palazzo La Scala (here)
We had the room with the stairs featured in last photo in the photo gallery. The bed was up the stairs and the sitting area/bathroom was down. It had a lovely view too. It was clean, quaint and quiet. I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for a reasonable rate hotel. It's in a great location within about equal distance to Rialto bridge and San Marco.
It's part of a chain of hotels and the Bella Venezia sister hotel is just around the corner. The Bella Venezia is more of a luxury hotel, and more money.

Went to Venice a few years ago and stayed at Villa Igea.
The location was really convenient---right off the vaporetto and minutes from St. marks.

Stayed at the Hotel Des Bains and it was hands down the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed at.
