giving up coffee
I was just wondering who officially gave up coffee? Is one cup okay or is it better to stay away completely?? I haven't seen my doctor yet and I honestly have no idea about all the dos and don'ts. I have a general idea- alcholol, sushi, deli meats... but that's about it. Thanks!!

Re: giving up coffee
Ideally, of course, doctors would like you to stay away from all caffeine, but they also say one cup is okay. Can you drink caffeine free or that doesn't do it for you?

Re: giving up coffee
I gave it up until late in my pregnancy ... about 34w. I was caffeine-free until then.
Up to 200 mg a day is fine.
ETA I didn't answer the poll because there wasn't really an answer for me!

Re: giving up coffee
With DS I gave it up completely. I tried half decaf/half regular. Was upsetting my stomach so I gave it up
Now that I'm prego with #2 I HAVE to have 1 cup of regular a day. I'm a FTWM with a toddler. It's a necessity
My OB with my DS said 1 cup is fine even though I gave it up For this one we don't go to the same OB b/c we moved to NJ. I don't think I ever asked him.

Re: giving up coffee
I have stopped drinking coffee since finding out I am pregnant but I do feel a lack of energy in the morning. I am hoping that once I get used to not drinking coffee that my body will get used to it and I will have more energy again.

Re: giving up coffee
I was on decaf only while TTC (for 3 years). Now that I'm pregnant I can't stomach the taste of coffee at all so I have the odd cup of decaf tea.

Re: giving up coffee
I remember feeling so guilty about this. I usually drink one half calf travel mug a day.

Re: giving up coffee
I didn't drink it b/c I would get so sick from the smell. Around 18 weeks, I was able to tolerate it it again and it was a weekend thing. Then I did it in decaf form and now I have one cup in the am.

Re: giving up coffee
With DS I had one small cup every morning and decaf the rest of the day.
This time, Im drinking decaf unless I need a cup, then I will certainly have one.

Re: giving up coffee
I gave up caffiene before we started TTC - I used to have a large DD every day. I loved my coffee but caffiene never did anything for me anyway just loved the taste of coffee so switching to decaf wasn't so rough -- at 24 weeks I only drink decaf coffee but really haven't wanted to drink it much either.
But if I have a headache I get a regular coffee and it does the trick usually instead of taking a Tylenol.

Re: giving up coffee
Coffee used to be one of the joys of my life. I loved SB, DD, at work, at home. I had to start my day with it. I was emotionally bonded to coffee. Then I got PG, so I decided to go out and get a nice French blend decaf. Then week 7 hit. Out of the blue I despised the smell of coffee. I'm now going on wk 21 and have yet to have a sip and DH is NOT allowed near me with coffee breath! I do miss it though, and look forward to a day when the smell woos me, not nauseates me!

Re: giving up coffee
I have a cup every morning, maybe half a cup. Though on the weekends I often have more.
I allow myself diet coke or ice tea here or there also.
My dr told me I can safetly have 1-2 cups of coffee a day.
