Were you told not to do them or is it okay? This Dr. that I saw said not to... but other people's Dr.'s said it's fine.

Re: Abdominal crunches - yay or nay
this is the one thing he was adamant about regarding exercise - no ab work.
mind you he said sushi is fine in moderation, so he's defintely on the more lax side.

I was told ab work was perfectly fine in the first trimester and after that you can still do ab work as long as you use pillows so you are on an incline, not flat on your back. Core exercises are even better.

Re: Abdominal crunches - yay or nay
I wouldn't do crunches but i have done stuff that engages my obliques...I have been taking pre natal exercise classes and basically the only ab stuff in it is very minor to just remind the muscles they are there but not to actually work them if that makes sense. but def would not do crunches.

i havent been to the ob yet (only RE) so Idk what mine will say but your dr. said ok to "real" sushi?? like raw?? if so i'd be in heaven!! i went to sushi for lunch today and had a california roll and boston and while they are good I would really love me some spicy tuna!!
OP---i was told no abdominal workout and no lifting weights! I feel like a flabby mess already. Thankfully little to no weight gain yet.

he did say to try to stay away from tuna in general so i don't know that i'd go eating a spicy tuna roll lol.
i don't eat sushi so it doesn't matter to me anyway!

I was told no by my doctor. I was also told no my the instructors at classes I was taking at the gym. Plus even when I tried them, they were very uncomfortable.

Re: Abdominal crunches - yay or nay
I'm surprised how many people's docs said no. Mine said they were fine. Mind you, he also okay'ed acne medicines and hair dyeing, so he's a little more lax than most! But I specifically asked him about crunches and he looked at me confused and asked, "why not?"
Of course, I was way too tired to even attempt the gym in my first tri, and now in my second tri my stomach muscles are all messed up and I need to even use my arms to get up out of a chair, so I'm not one to tell you to do crunches.

Whew, I was feeling like the odd man out. I've been doing modified ones since the second trimester. Not full-on crunches, but little ones with my back proped up by pillows. I ask my doc at every appt. if they are still ok and he says yes everytime (I'm 23 weeks). They are also part of one of my prenatal workout DVDs. The better shape you keep your abs in during pregnancy, the easier it will be to get them back in shape afterwards.
