good sam or winthrop?
hey ladies! i need some advice.. me and DH are moving to LI and from queens so I am thinking of changing drs. currently my doc delivers @ winthrop, one of the reasons why i chose him. However, our new house is walking distance from good sam.
So, I am considering switching practices for convenience, since its so close to home. But I don't know much about good sam. Anyone have any experiences there? Does anyone know of a good doc who delivers there? any help would be appreciated

Re: good sam or winthrop?
I delivered DD at Good Sam and I will deliver this LO there as well...I LOVE that hospital...the nursing staff was excellent, and they have a NICU that is Level II I believe (which is just one step under Stony Brook), so G-d Forbid something goes wrong....
My Dr. is awesome - a single Dr. practice (he does have a PA for regular gyn issues)...he's in West Islip, about 2 minutes down the road from Good Sam. FM me if you'd like his information.

Re: good sam or winthrop?
I chose Good Sam because of their NICU. My aunt delivered premie twins there and they were phenomenal.

Re: good sam or winthrop?
I'm delivering at Good Sam, because I'm high risk and their NICU is level III. I have a great OB if you need a recommendation.

I love Good Sam and have a great OB there as well. My DS was in the NICU there for 10 days and they were all awesome. Really great. I would highly recommend them!

I don't have any experience with either, but we are delivering at Good Sam since that's where my doctor delivers. I hear good things!

Re: good sam or winthrop?
I will deliver at Good Sam but my sister delivered at both. She actually had a better experience at Good Sam even though she had a private room at Winthrop.

Re: good sam or winthrop?
I live near Good Sam and my current Dr. delivers there. I want to deliver @ Winthrop so I am switching Drs.
Good Sam is AMAZING. All of my friends have deliver there, a few woman I went to HS w/are nurses there...I really cant say enough about it. I am not delivering there due to personal reasons that have nothing to due w/the hospital itself. I wish those personal reasons didnt affect me b/c I would love to deliver there. I only chose Winthrop next b/c my sister delivered there and I know they are just as amazing as Good Sam.
I would honestly go w/whatever you are most comfortable with.

Re: good sam or winthrop?
Honestly, They are pretty much the same. They are both teaching hospitals, Winthrop's NICU is actually a bit better, in terms of level of patients they treat and they have a higher volume of patients in their NICU. Not by a drastic amount though. Good Sam's ped residents actually do a month rotation at Winthrop's NICU to get more experience. Delivery wise you are going to have a pretty similar experience at both hospitals being that you are closer to Good Sam I would deliver there. If you don't want to switch doctors and don't mind the drive than deliver at Winthrop.
