If you have a boy
Do you plan on circumcising him? I have been researching and have found some conflicting information. I asked the doctor and she said that is really done for religious purposes or aesthetics. I just don't want my to feel uncomfortable if he is not and almost everyone else is. So many things to think about.

Re: If you have a boy
When I was reading, the only thing I saw as a pro to not get it done was lack of sensation during sex. DH said he doesn't have a reference point since he is circumcised but said he isn't missing out.
We were originally on the fence. A lot of what I read about not getting it done was increased chance of infections, increased chance of UTI, increased chance of penile cancer. My dad's friend's father had to get circumcised at age 70 due to some kind of issue. I'd rather the baby get it done now so he doesn't remember it.
I think it's a personal decision. I actually worked in a pre-school with a very diverse population and the boys that were first generation Americans with family from Europe or Asia weren't circumcised and didn't have an issue with potty training or seem to notice a difference (we had two potties in the bathroom in our classroom).

Re: If you have a boy
We will be circumsizing our . I had 2 brother, neither circumsized and they had so much trouble with infections and properly cleaning it and DH's brother wasn't circumsized either and had so much trouble he asked to be circumsized at 16, DH is circumsized and we decided to circumsize or DS as well. Has nothing to do with "looking like Daddy", we chose it for hygiene reasons. It's a personal decision for each family.

I worked in day care quite a few years ago and had to change many diapers and most boys were. There was just one that wasn't. I worked with 9 months to 2 year olds so they really wouldn't have noticed anything at that point since they were all being changed on a changing table.
I did read the same as you did but I have read some horror stories of things going wrong and re-circumcisions having to be done. This is what scares me. I am wondering if the positives of having it done outweigh the risk. I also wonder how common it is to have something go wrong.

Thanks for sharing, this helps me understand the benefits. There are so many websites geared to one side so it's better to hear first hand.

If our turns out to be a , for sure we will circumsize. It's just something we both feel strongly about.

Re: If you have a boy
We have decided against it, the arguments to do it are not as strong for me as the agruments not to. I have little to no support from family.friends on this, but my dh has been against it for years since he feels bitter that the choice was taken away from him...
I was on the fence, but with ample research I feel its best to let DS make his own decision when he is older if he feels he is missing out by not being circumcised.
You can never do everything right, ur kid will be mad at you for something down the line, could be this, could not...we will see

Re: If you have a boy
We def. will if we have a boy. Mainly for hygiene reasons. I worked at a daycare and a couple of boys were not and it was always difficult to keep it clean.

Re: If you have a boy
They don't circumcize where I come from. I began my career as a paediatric nurse and never encountered any boy with an infection as a result of not having a circumcision, but if we have a boy he will be, only because it is more traditional in the US and I wouldn't want him to be different when it comes to the boy's changing rooms when he's older.
