Pediatrician search?
When is a good time to start searching for a pediatrician? I'm 24w3d now.

Do you have to have a pediatrician before you give birth?

You should as you want them to come to the hospital to see the baby. If you do not the hospital ped will see the baby and transfer his records to your ped when you get one.

Re: Pediatrician search?
I am pretty sure you need have the ped before the baby arrives. As soon as the baby is born the ped will visit you in the hospital.
I am only 12 weeks but I asked my GP for a recommendation when I was there this week and he recommended the Dr. who took care of his child. Maybe you could start there?

Yes, you need a pediatrician before giving birth...we needed to put the info on the hospital pre registration forms...they will visit the baby in the hospital and then you need to take them for a follow up visit shortly after being released.
We went with someone recommended by my doctor who is near to where we live.

Re: Pediatrician search?
I had no idea the Ped you choose comes to the hospital.....I just assumed the Dr. at the hospital checked them out. I have a lot to learn I had my 24w appt yesterday - I wish I had thought to ask for recommendations.

If your ped is not affliated with the hospital you deliver at, then the pediatricians on call will take care of your child until they are released. Once you get home, you'll bring your child to their ped.

The ped only comes to the hospital if they are affiliated with the hospital you deliver in.
The peds Im considering are on the South Shore, and the hospital Im delivering at is on the North Shore, so Im pretty sure they are not affiliated.
