Life Insurance
So we are going to make an appointment to get the medical down for life insurance. Hubby is worried about the price and if we need it right now. I figure we should get it once the baby is here.
Thoughts?

The earlier you get it, the better. With every month that passes that you and DH get "older", the rate can change & increase.

We got it a few months before our BFP. We had been TTC for a while and knew we were going to need it, so we just bit the bullet.

Agree, DH turns 30 next saturday and they said that once he turns 30 the rate goes up so that's why is wants to do it now, we started the process 2 weeks ago.

i have had it for awhile.
dh... i'm not sure. i think i remember something about it's difficult or very costly for him to get life insurance??? maybe another cop wife can chime in lol...

We insured my husband, but not myself. I'm planning on staying home for the foreseeable future and haven't brought in an income in years because I've been in grad school, so monetarily I didn't think there wasn't a point to insure me.

DH has had coverage for a couple of years now, and he's a cop. A lot of the life insurance companies will come straight to the precinct for presentations on life insurance...that's how we found our agent for New York Life.

As soon as we bought a house, DH got it. KNowing I would be up $hits creek with that mortgage without him Now that we have  on the way he has upped it.

We got it two years ago when we bought our house. It was important for us to have it becuase God forbid anything happen to either one of us, we can't afford the house and living expenses on either of our salaries alone.
I was so against doing it because it was morbid and made me think of things that I didn't want to, but in the end, I know it was the right decision.

thank you - i was hoping you'd respond (i remembered your DH is also a cop). I emailed DH and he said he has the rep's information and was looking into additional coverage (other than what he has through the pba).

I have 300k of coverage free through work but now that we are expecting plan to up it. Not sure if it's best to go through the same company or a different one. Life insurance and a will are both on our to do list before baby comes

For those who mentioned they will be staying home/not working and therefore don't have life insurance, don't forget this... in the case you were to pass, your DH would be left with DC on his own. With him working FT, he will need to pay for childcare, most likely, and that can add up for full time childcare. Some SAHMs end up getting a smaller policy than their DH's to help cover this type of cost should they pass away.
We only recently initiated the process for life insurance and DS just turned 1. I planned to do while pregnant, then I planned to do it right after he was born. My father died very suddenly a month after DS was born, at the age of 58. It really brought it home for me and I would never want to leave DS or DH with a financial burden on top of the emotional trauma.
