Well I'm not surprised. Brian Frons is the director of daytime at ABC and it's been clear for a while that he really hates soaps. GH is next.
I think I would actually shed tears if they canceled GH - why do you think that??

I would be so devastated if they cancelled GH! I got back into watching it last January after a 4 year hiatus. I can't believe they're cancelling AMC & OLTL.

My grandmother is devastated they canceled AMC. I don't think she's missed an episode in 30 years!

I think it is more of the fact that it costs much more to produce soap operas then it does a talk show. The same way there is more 'reality' tv than scripted shows.

If you love GH then keep watching GH. The more support our soaps have the better off the are. Im sad because so many people are now going to be out of work. It's not just the actors but the crew and all the behind the scene people that have lost their jobs. It is so sad to me and honestly I think they made a huge mistake. Im tired of watching the same talk shows that tell you one day what not to eat and then the next telling you to eat more of it to keep you alive. I love OLTL and Ill turn AMC on once in a while. It's sad the AMC got moved to California and people sold their houses and relocated for what? It's not right!
As for GH I saw Port Chuck yesterday with Jason, Johnny, Steve, and Spinelli and they dedicated a song to AMC and OLTL. The whole soap community is devastated. They just want you to keep supporting AMC,and OLTL till they go off.

The genre is dying. It's incredibly expensive to produce (especially compared to more reality based talk shows and things like that). The ratings for GH are the highest on ABC.. but they still aren't stellar.
A lot of people have a difficult time being able to follow serialized television 5 days a week - especially with more and more people working outside the home.
I am a GH fan.. but honestly.. I really think it's just a matter of time before it's gone too.

I literally almost cried. I've watched AMC and OLTL my whole life. They're a little bit of fluff that make me happy and now I wont have that anymore :( I'm truly sad.

I swear, soon the only thing you will be able to watch on TV anymore is reality shows.
Game shows died off, soaps are dying off, it's really sad....
