The De-Fender: what's the purpose of these things?
Are everyone's bumpers being scratched up left and right? IDK, I think a couple of scratches would be less conspicuous than this. Or is it a "fashion accessory" for your car?
Sort of like the "bra" in the 80s...remember these? I SO thought I would drive a Monte Carlo SS with one of these things when I got my license!

we were just commenting the other day about how stupid these things look. They look like you have half your front mat hanging out the back of your car

Re: The De-Fender: what's the purpose of these things?
If you park a car anywhere where it's parallel parking only, these things are kinda useful. They don't cover the corners though, which people always scrape up too. I see people driving around with them either because they're lazy or forgot that they have it on there. Looks pretty ugly when you're driving around with a big black piece of rubber hanging off your trunk...much uglier than a few scratches.
I gotta say, whoever invented this is genius. Not because it's that useful, but because it ISN'T useful and people still buy it!!

Re: The De-Fender: what's the purpose of these things?
Living in Brooklyn, I get it (although I don't own one). Don't want to get your bumper scratched in some of those tight spots HOWEVER I think people fail to realize you can put it back in the trunk when you're not using it. I find it hilarious to find them flapping in the wind on the BQE .

I can see the purpose of them in the city to prevent dings in your bumper when parking on the street. My bumper (and everyone else's for that matter) was a mess when I lived in Brooklyn. However, I can't understand their usefulness if you live in the 'burbs.

Re: The De-Fender: what's the purpose of these things?
As someone who parks on the street daily amongst people that park like animals, this is the best thing ever. My bumper was shot to shiit on my last car because people just do not care how they park and I refused to let it happen again. I do not however drive around with it flapping behind me! Its annoying to put in and out all the time but completely worth it.

I have a brand new car. I live in Queens. I would rather have a scratched up bumper than drive around with this stupid thing.

The first cut is the deepest. After the first ding you get on your car, all the rest do not matter.

Re: The De-Fender: what's the purpose of these things?
As someone who used to have to parallel park at home, I get the concept. I didn't have one, but maybe if I leased and had to worry about the condition of the car when I returned it, I would have gotten one.
