another crib question

Which crib did you get/are you planning on getting? And WHY??? I'm stuck on this.

Is the convertible crib worth it? It turns into a twin bed or a full bed?

Re: another crib question

Convertible. Yes, ours turns into the head and foot board for a full size bed but first converts to a toddler bed.

ditto. we got our furniture at Behrs, got the conversion kids for the convertible crib. We intend our furniture to last a long time, so a convertible made sense.

The same with us. The furniture we hope to have for a long time as well and the crib that we want changes into a full size bed. We will buy the conversion kit now so that just in case it gets discontinued we will already have the kit.

THIS! One of our kids will have this bedroom set until they move out!

Re: another crib question

Basic crib, For a few reasons, 1. I don't think the quality of any furniture is good enough to last that long, JMO. Kids are rough on furniture and I felt like sooner rather than later it would get drawn on, bitten, scraped up and I'd want a new set anyways. 2. The rest of the furniture is from my old set that I got as a teenager and already has a queen size bed that goes with it. 3. We don't live in our forever home, but rent an apartment. We have no idea where (what state) we are going to live in and when we will move, but I imagine once we settle down I'll want to decorate all of the rooms and the kids may like picking out their own stuff.

Re: another crib question

We got a convertible for Sean, and another for this baby - turns into a toddler bed, and then a full size - so all we'll need is a matterss.

I didn't get babyish or kid sized furnityre so their dressers will grow w/ them as well -

Re: another crib question

We are getting a convertible crib because the crib I liked happened to be convertible. I do like the way it looks as a full sized bed but I'm still on the fence as to whether we will buy the conversion kits

Re: another crib question

I am getting a convertible but not buying the kit. Just because most are convertible now and the one i Chat Icon is.

For a few reasons:

I can't see wanting any furniture for 15 years ?!?! Also What if the kids don't like it and want a superman bed or canopy bed?

Kids are not easy on their things
Chat Icon So it prob won't last.

Not sure we will have room for all the kids to have full size beds. Even if we did, I think I like the idea of twin beds and/or bunk beds for my twins for a few years to keep them in the same room.

I want room for toys/desk etc.

I don't like the idea of commiting to furniture for that long! Who knows where we will be (we are not in our forever room), if we will have room, if we have 2 or 5 kids? There are just too many unknowns.

This is what I've been thinking. I'm still torn! I guess when I look for cribs, I will just see what I like best and what is affordable!!

Thank you for all of your input. It's giving me a lot to think about!

Re: another crib question

We went with the convertible crib - we got ours at restoration hardware baby - it's from the Sloane collection. I felt it was a set she could grow into and I loved the style - I got the kit to make a toddler bed and then the back of the crib will become the headboard so we bought the metal bed frame to make it a full size eventually.

We weren't actively looking for a convertible crib. The one we loved just happened to come with this feature. We're still planning on using the crib for any other children we have, so our youngest would wind up getting the convertible bed anyway.

Re: another crib question

We are going with a convertible (Basic Crib style). However, IT ONLY CONVERTS INTO A TODDLER / DAY BED.
We didn't want a crib that converts into a full size bed because we are having triplets. Where are we going to put 3 full size beds later on? Besides, I don't think that the convertible will last them for a very long time. Once babies start teething and jumping, they start destroying the crib. They are very rough! Yeah, there are protectors when they are teething, but they always get a few scratches in.....Besides, as a mother of a teenager, I know for a fact, that most children prefer a different bed as teens and have a different taste, they like picking out their own stuff.

Re: another crib question

We bought a convertible crib BUT the fact that it is a convertible really had little to do with our decision. We just really liked the set. If we had found something else we really liked that didn't convert, we probably would still have bought it.

IMO , the convertible feature is only necessary if you plan on having your LO use it beyond their baby years. If you plan on using the same furniture for the next baby, it's probably not that important to have a convertible.

I hope our Chat Iconlikes her furniture as much as we do and will get as much use out of it as possible. But I'm not going to say that I wouldn't understand if she has her own taste and wants something different by the time she is 8 or 9 years old, KWIM?

Bottom line, I think if you find something you like and you can afford it, I wouldn't pass on it just bc it doesn't convert 3-4 different ways. But again, this is just my personal opinion ( based on no experience as of yet).

Re: another crib question

we got convertible cribs for our twin DD's. I didn't buy them for that purpose, I just really liked them. I did buy the toddler conversion kit, but will not be using them for their big kid beds.
Our girls were early teethers (starting at 2.5 months) and when they could stand they destroyed their crib. The front and sides are all chewed up. I tried different crib protectors and they would pull them off.
So imo, I don't think you can decide when you buy a crib if it will last forever.
