baby shower gift
hey girls. my office is having a baby shower for my boss, whom i am very close to. it's her third baby, but her first girl and her next oldest is already 5, so she doesn't really have a lot of stuff. she doesn't know about the shower and i'm pretty sure she's not registered. any ideas on what to get her? i would like it to be pretty generous, as she and her husband gave us a really nice wedding gift, but i don't even know what a generous baby shower gift is. (she gave us $250 for our wedding...what would the equivalent of that be?) thanks!!

Re: baby shower gift
This isn't worth $250, but every mom i know looooooves Aden + Anais swaddling blankets. They are the most soft, stretchy blankets on the market, and they are huge! A lot of moms also use them as nursing covers, burps cloths, etc., so they are versatile.

This probably isn't going to be in the ballpark you're looking for, but my mom put together the entire bath set together for my cousin. She put a note on it that said "Just add water and baby!" It was the bathtub, toiletries, towels, washcloths, a bathrobe, pajamas, a hairbrush set, bath toys, etc.

I love this idea. Vera Bradley has such pretty ones (although I dont know if everyone likes that style...) My BFF got a Vera diaper bag at TJ Maxx, so I would check there!

Re: baby shower gift
I got a VB diaper bag from a friend of my dad's and I loved it so much I returned my coach one and use it exclusively!!
I love this idea!!! It's extremely generous and will be more helpful than she even could imagine right now! You can also get her the matching wallet (I bought it for myself because I use the diaper bag now instead of a purse for me, so I love having the matching wallet). You could fill it will tons of useful items like butt paste, wipes, a travel wipe case, and maybe put a gift card for buy buy baby AND target in the wallet if you get that too (then she can buy diapers with it). Also, those munchkin diaper disposal bags, a pacifier case, etc. If you want, I actually posted a few days ago on Parenting every single thing I carry in my diaper bag -- I can find that for you.
I went to my ILs overnight this weekend for the first time and besides my regular diaper bag, we brought a second diaper bag (an eddie bauer one that I got on CL brand new for $8 that's more boy-friendly for DH) with a change of clothes, extra bottles, formula, and toys. One of the best gifts I got was a bunch of the little toys that hang and attach to a stroller bar or car seat bar that DD loves to bat at, crinkle, and grab, and will be able to use for teething too soon. (DD is 3 months now.)
A great little toy you could put in there too is the baby einstein music box (it's like $5 at target and the size of an old walkman -- it plays 7 different songs and lights up as it plays; DD is fascinated by it).
I love the Aden & Anais burp cloths. They're a little pricey ($8 each or you can order online for thicker ones for $16 for a pair) but fabulous and also can be used as bibs. Also really practical are waterproof pads in all different sizes. For some reason my daughter likes to pee as soon as I open her diaper and swipe her once with a wipe (I'm ready for it most of the time, but many times she soaks whatever she's on, so I have a ton of mini-waterproof pads I layer. You could include some of those in there.
I'm excited! If I were going to spend like $200 on someone's gift, I'd totally go all out and get a ton of little things like that for them! Have fun!
