for those who have dogs...
what's your plan for your dog when you have to go to the hospital? we're trying to figure out what to do with our dog depending on the time of day we have to go to the hospital when im in labor.

Re: for those who have dogs...
I'm pretty sure my mom will help out since she doesn't live that far away.

Friends or family, most likely. Also the hospital is only 5 min away.

Re: for those who have dogs...
for #1 my parents watched him, but for #2, DH brought DS home every night, so he stayed at home.

Re: for those who have dogs...
We live 5 minutes from the hospital. So DH just took care of hte dog.
Plus at that point she was used to be home alone all day as we were both working. I think this time around we might have to arrange for someone to come let her out and such as I am a SAHM so she is used to be in and out all day

Re: for those who have dogs...
Our dog is staying with my ILs. DH will bring her home each night to sniff the blankets and then drop her off at his parents on the way to the hospital after I give birth.

Our dog stayed home. DH went home every night and let her out. The night I was laboring and there all night my IL's came over and let her out.

Re: for those who have dogs...
I am going to have my dog walker come in to walk her and feed her. Once I have the baby and my husband or my parents will take care of her.

Re: for those who have dogs...
since the weather was nice, we kept our dogs in the backyard with the doggy door open so that they had free access to the kitchen. Our friends came to feed them. However, I wouldn't recommend this. Our dumb dog ended up digging under the fence and escaping while I was in labor, only to be found the next day all banged up and costing us hundreds in Vet bills. Not the best thing to come home to So, yeah, I would suggest NOT giving ANY kind of freedom. I wish we would have either locked them up inside or left them with MIL

Re: for those who have dogs...
The minute I think I might be in labor, I will be bringing my dog and his crate to my parents house. He is still young (1 & 1/2 yrs), but has stayed there a few times overnight, so it won't be that traumatic for him.
He will stay there until the day we come home from the hospital.
I feel sooo bad about not seeing him for a few days...I LOVE my dog like famiily
