can't do a yard sell?
I have asked before (I think!).
I am PURGING.
I have lamps, clothing, dishes, glassware. All nothing of real value.
We cannot do a yard sale and I just cannot do a craigslist/ebay. We decided the time and energy to take pics and list for just a few bucks per item is not worth it.
I can't drive around to give donation to this or that.
I don't want strangers in my house.
Should I just put the items by the curb with a "free" sign?

I would call one of the organizations that will pick up at your house. I know these are regularly in our neighborhood looking for donations of household goods:
Lupus Foundation 888-44-LUPUS Big Brothers Big Sisters 631-234-0000 Vietnam Vets - 631-582-0242
They'll provide a receipt so you can take the tax deduction as well.

Re: can't do a yard sell?
I would put it all at the curb and put a listing on Craigs List under the FREE section and title it "Curb Alert". It will be gone in a couple hours.
I don't donate to any of the above anymore. They sell the stuff to thrift stores by the pound. I would rather my stuff actually go to people that NEED it. Not to a store where people have to pay $5 for a shirt.

Re: can't do a yard sell?
I work with a man (school security guard/cop) who is married and has three children (2 teenager girls, 7 year old boy).
They lost everything in a house fire last week. As a school community we have been scrambling to find clothes, linens and towels to donate to them. They also need so many household items. They are starting again from scratch. Unfortunately, many teachers just purged their own houses over Feb break so we don't have that much.
Is there anyway I could put them in touch with you? I'm sure he and his family would be grateful for whatever you have.
I am blocked from LIF at work so I won't be able to respond from 6 am-about 3p.m.

I don't have linen or towels. But so far I have a couple of lamps (without the shade) that are working, some champagne and wine glasses. I will look for what it really usable and you can have it all.
