is it worth it to convert to gas?
We are going to convert to gas when we move into the home we are currently in contract for.
Is it worth it to spend the money to do this? Do you save a decent amount in the long run?
TIA!

Re: is it worth it to convert to gas?
IMO, it's pretty much the same moneywise.. the only reason why people complain about oil is that you pay it in large lump sums rather than on a monthly basis like you do with gas.. so while with oil you get drops every 2-3 months or whatever, you pay gas monthly so it doesn't feel like it hurts your pocket as badly..
Also, it's convenience.. you can't run out of gas.. you just flick the thermostat and it's there.. granted if you are on auto drop with an oil company you won't either but I've run out a few times (I never did auto drops, I did COD drops).
hope that helps.

Re: is it worth it to convert to gas?
We thought it was and haven't been disappointed.
We are not on a budget, so in the colder months we pay higher and in the summer our bills are much lower (we use gas for heat/hot water and the dryer)
We have a mother-daughter house, 2 levels with 4 adults living in it.
These were our bills for the last year totaled about $1600.
Our oil bills for our first winter (from October-April (last fill up before our conversion) was $2000, so yes for us it was cheaper and continues to be each year.
We also love the convenience of not having to fill up the tank.

Re: is it worth it to convert to gas?
We bought our house about 4 yrs ago and use oil. The oil tank is underground and is probably over 20 yrs old - at or near its end of life.
My first thought was to have the oil tank abandoned in place and have an above ground tank installed. To do this, an oil line would have to be rerun from the new tank to the oil burner.
But, why do this only to switch ot gas at some point in the future? I know I want to switch to gas because I disagree w/ the previous poster as to why people don't like oil. My oil bill is the same every month because I had the oil company put me on a monthly budget.
I firmly believe that the price of oil will be rising at a faster pace than the price of gas.
I did a quick google search and look what I found LI Families convo bout oil vs gas from 2008
