Re: advice for going on a cruise with 20 month old

Haven't done a cruise with DD but just want to say have fun and I can't wait to hear how it was! What ship?

We were supposed to be planning one for the spring of this year but with DH's new job we're putting it off until next year... but I did do a lot of research about cruising with an under 2 yr old. A few things I read a lot were...

1. bring a blow up tub/pool for the pool deck (kids in diapers are not allowed in the main pools) and other inflatable toys, which are easy to pack

2. lots of ships offer day & night babysitting and toddler classes, mommy & me type classes so get a schedule early if you want to take advantage of that

3. bring your stroller for excursions

4. Get to the boat as early as possible to avoid the long lines... some you can get on as early as 10am

5. Bring a portable DVD player if you have one and her favorite DVD's.

Just to let you know disney is over an hour from where the boat docks... how much time do you have at that port?

Re: advice for going on a cruise with 20 month old

I am not sure because I haven't cruised yet at all, let alone with DD, but DH is planning one for us and Sienna will be around Victoria's age. We are going to be discussing this with a friend who cruised with a toddler and I can let you know what I find out.

I don't know... by the time you get off the boat and get to Disney it'll probably be 2pm or later. Then you have to make sure to leave by maybe 7pm to get back to the boat and get on before it leaves at 10. That gives you 5 hours tops at the park... I think tickets are like $75 per adult for 1 day at the park and then food will be additional. Do they offer a disney excursion?

Re: advice for going on a cruise with 20 month old

I just went on a cruise that stopped at Port Canaveral Florida (we went to Disney for the day and had plenty of time) -- The ride was just about an hour. It wasn't bad at all.

In Nassau we brought the boys to the Atlantis Aquarium. We did this on our own (not an excursion through the ship) mostly because I was unorganized and it ended up working out because I had a stomach virus so my DH took the boys with my parents.

We didn't get off in Freeport since we were only docked for a few hours and I still wasn't feeling better.

I was concerned about what the baby would sleep in (he was 16 mnths at the time) but I ended up using one of their cribs. It was totally fine for him (I thought it would be too small) but I did bring my own sheet - (I bought the quilted matress pads for the pack and plays) and that worked out bc the mattress was so flimsy.

Don't forget to bring medicine. Tylenol, Motrin, Benadryl (I never carry benadryl and thank god I did because my son had such bad hives on the boat...could you tell I had a blast with all of the sickness we dealt with Chat Icon Chat Icon)

I brought some of the milk boxes to keep in my room and they def. came in handy when I couldn't run up to the buffet area. I brought Horizon 2% for my older son and Stop and Shop Whole milk for my younger son.

I will add to this as I think of more things! Chat Icon

Re: advice for going on a cruise with 20 month old

we did the ncl cruise from fl to bahamas on the jewel in september when dd was 16 months. in fl, we did the disney excursion for the day and went to magic kingdom! dd had a blast. when we were in the bahamas, we did the atlantis excursion, which dd absolutely loved as well as us! def bring along a lightweight stroller, benedryl/motrin/tylenol. the kids area in the buffet has milk/juices. we would bring some back to our room everyday for the fridge in case we needed it (room service has it to just in case) we also took the small cereal boxes too for dd to have as a snack if needed. dd had a blast and ncl is def kid friendly! we would def cruise again with a lil one!! any questions feel free to fm me!

Re: advice for going on a cruise with 20 month old

We did this cruise a few years ago. DD was 3 and I was pg with DS.

My cousin did it a week before us and did the Disney excursion. She said it was terrible. SHe said it was a very long ride from the boat to the park and the felt very rushed.

At that port, we went on an excursion to a resort that was on a beach- I can't remember the name. It was perfect for young kids. It had a huge kiddie pool that was about 6 inches deep. It also had a giant whale or pirate ship with slides into the water. There was a regular pool, tiki bar, restaurant and a beautiful beach with umberellas and chaise lounges. Def look into it- you won't be disappointed.
