Jamaica in September?

I'm getting ready to book a trip for DH's 30th birthday. I've already decided where I want to stay and everything, but then I looked at the usual weather for September in Jamaica and it's supposedly rainy. Has anyone ever been there this time of year? Is it true? Should I be concerned? They make it sound like even the rainy season isn't very rainy so I'm hoping it'll be okay. I'd really like to be in Jamaica for DH's birthday so I'm hoping that I don't have to rethink the dates. TIA! Chat Icon

Re: Jamaica in September?

We went for a destination wedding and we did have a bit of rain, but nothing too bad and usually at night.

Awesome! Thank you for your response! We can deal with a little rain as long as we can come back with some semblance of a tan. Chat Icon Thanks again!

I went in August for my honeymoon and it SUNNY all 7 days. A couple of days is was bright sun and all of a sudden it would start drizzling, 5 mins later it was over. The natives called it "liquid sunshine" LOL. I think you'll be ok!

Re: Jamaica in September?

Jamaica is tropical like any other island - so, they have consistent weather all year round. Average temps in the 80's and tropical type rain - meaning, rain that comes and goes. If there are showers, it will most likely be a certain time of day (morning, evening) and/or for a temporary period - 30 minutes. When we were there it got cloudy for an hour one or two days (in December) and it sprinkled a bit, then the sun came out. You should be just fine! Enjoy!

Re: Jamaica in September?

September is Hurricane season which is probably why the averages are a lot higher that time of year.

I would book trip insurance just in case.

It pretty much rains every day in Jamaica - it did while we were there. It lasts for less than 5 mins and is actually a relief from the hot sun. It is funny because it will be a bright sunny day, no clouds in the sky and then you look up and there is a raging black cloud, rain, and back sunny with no clouds - all less than like 15 mins. Very different than NY!

Doesn't sound bad at all- that's similar to what it was like in Bermuda. It'd rain for all of 15 minutes and then go back to being sunny! Thank you for your response! ! Chat Icon

Not at all!! It's $2700 all inclusive. That includes food, alcohol, taxes, fees, and non-stop flights on Jet Blue. It's for 6 days and 5 nights- from a Saturday to a Thursday.

ETA: We've never done an all inclusive before. We've always been on cruises which are usually about $1k per person for a week long cruise. Alcohol isn't included in this price and some restaurants aren't either. So after gifts, alcohol, dinner "out" a night or two, excursions, etc. we'd be spending another $1500. So I wanted to try this out and see how much bang we get for our buck!

That's a good price. Who did you book it through? I just priced it on Cheapcaribbean for July and it was about 3300 for the 6 nights. Oh yeah and the departing flight goes out at 5:50 am UGH!

I love all inclusives.

I booked the resort right through their website. They have a few different specials going on right now so check it out that way. I think it was like 40% off for fall travel (on select rooms) until May 15? But they only let you book Air Jamaica through their website (and don't give you a ton of options) and I prefer Jet Blue so I booked the flights through Expedia.

so that's with your air through Jetblue? I like Air Jamaica too but my BIL offered miles so I would love to book it separately but from what I've seen it's the same price for just the hotel even without the air because they sell it a certain way.

Hmmm I just went and did it both ways- one with the airfare and one without. It's $2k for it without the airfare and $2650 for it with the airfare. Same price I'm paying even though I'm going with Jet Blue through Expedia, the only difference is the Jet Blue flights are non-stop where the American Airlines (I was mistaken, it's not even Air Jamaica) has a layover in Miami coming and going.

I went in July and by 3/4 everyday it would rain. After it stopped I found that the sun never came back out. But it sounds like others had a much better experience, so that's good.

Couples Swept away is awesome!

We did the free intro scuba course - make sure you sign up on your first day (for whatever day you want) as they book up fast. You need to do a swim test - swim 8 laps. Only us and one other couple did it so it was almost a private scuba session - awesome!

Also, make your dinner reservations your first day there so you can make sure to try the restaurants. Feathers was amazing! I had the escargot and it was sooooo yummy!

The asian dinner place is good too but spicy, be careful! We like spicy but were surprised at how hot it was.

We also tried jetskiing - I was terrible but it was free and fun.

Order room service for breakfast - they come right at the time you request, nice to have that first cup of coffee. We then went to the real breakfast since DH wanted some eggs too!

Jet skiiing (wave runners) are free? I didn't know they have room service. Was there a certain room category you had to book?

We've been to CSA three times and LOVE it! We only strayed to go to Couples Negril, but I prefer CSA.

I LOVE the banana stuffed french toast for breakfast, and I agree, try to go to Feathers every night!

We love CSA! We were recently at THREE Couples Resorts and CSA was our favorite.

I love Lemon Grass. Delish! Definitely do try to go there at least once. I would make reservations for restaurants for every night. The Palms wasn't bad but definitely more fun to eat at the reservation restaurants.

I also loved the Sea Grape Cafe for light lunch. Well, not so light when you order several things off the menu but it was so good.

Dermen at the martini bar - must visit!

I took a PADI SCUBA certification course with Franz, he was excellent.

I agree with the other poster, order room service for breakfast and go have 2nd breakfast later. I loved having that cup of coffee and croissant on our terrace in my pjs in the am.
