Baby's room on main level, parents upstairs

How do you feel about this setup? If you had a choice. We are currently across the hall from the nursery. We're finishing our attic to make a 3rd bedroom in our house. Our current bedroom is small and cramped and the new room will be bigger and my closet will be up there regardless since the closet in our room is only big enough for one of us. DH wants to make the upstairs our bedroom. The stairs to the room are right next to DD's room, but I'm a litte uneasy with DD being on the first floor alone. Our TV room is in the basement, so when DD goes to bed, she's upstairs alone (I have a video monitor) until we come upstairs. DH says it's no different than this.
I know some houses are setup like this, but if you had a choice, would you move upstairs?

I would never leave the baby on the first floor alone if there was any other option. It seems more unsafe too--someone could break in more easily, etc.
I'm a big fan of all bedrooms on one floor. I like being able to get to DS in a second if something is wrong.

One thing that was non-negotiable for me when I was house hunting was that all the bedrooms be on the same floor, and in the same part of the house. Even with monitors, I would be too uneasy any other way. Sorry.

I agree, but if we have baby no. 2 in this house, someone will have to go up there, probably DD no. 1 since she'll be older.
I prefer all bedrooms on one level, but we bought this house before we were even engaged, over 6 years ago. I think both of us assumed we'd be out of here before kids. And then the market crashed. We do plan to move at some pt and bedrooms on one level will be a must.
I just have to stand my ground that I'm not comfortable going up there with DD downstairs.

Sounds like we have the same set up.....we have a cape.....two bedrooms on main level and large master bedroom in upstairs attic area. We are on the second floor and ds is on the main floor, took getting used to but totally fine for all of us. We have an alarm on all dr's, windows and motion sensor and have video baby monitor.

I would never leave my DC on a separate floor to sleep. I'm having a hard time with him in the next room, so I'd be a nervous wreck!

We have this set-up too, and it's not the best, but it has been fine. DS is 3 now--when he was a newborn, he slept with us anyway, then when we moved him to his room, we used the monitor. We do have an alarm system also, which makes us feel better.

When we switched him to a bed, I was leery of the possibility of him roaming the house--the one minus here is that he cannot come to us if he wants to since that would involve a flight of stairs. Right now we have a gate in front of his door.

DD's bedroom is upstairs and our master is on the main floor. It's just the way our home is set up. She's still in our bedroom for the time being, but we will definitely move her upstairs once she is STTN. I think it's fine.

We have pretty much the same situation as you. We are finishing our upstairs to be our master suite and DD"s bedroom and the new baby's bedroom will be on the first floor. The stairs to our bedroom will literally be right in front of their doors. It is not ideal but it will have to work. I will have video monitors and I am sure we will all get used to it.

exactly what we had.... its really not a big deal - video monitors are great and so is a house alarm!
