What should I do? To tell my mother this early or not

I am seeing my mother and my aunt today for the first time since finding out that I am PG. I am SO tempted to tell them. I am really close with them. I know DH said he wanted us to wait until we say anything maybe 8 weeks but, I can't wait that long! Should I just bite my tongue and wait or tell my mother today when I see her? or is that overstepping my DH's wishes

Re: What should I do? To tell my mother this early or not

it's really a personal decision esp if your DH doesn't want you to do it. I told my mom and sis the day I took a hpt bc I knew that I would need their support if anything bad were to happen. DH was okay with that...we haven't told his parents or my dad/stepmother yet though.

Not in my opinion! I would tell DH I'm going to tell and then tell. Too big of a secret to keep IMO! Plus it's so exciting to tell your mom!

Yes, I know it's way too big of a secret to keep inside! I need female support in my life right now!!!

I am going to call DH and tell him that I am going to tell them...

That's totally up to you.

For me, it was important our immediate family members knew because in case something should happen I wanted their support.

Maybe discuss again with DH.

It is just really an awkward situation to say anything to my inlaws bc we haven't seen or spoken to them in over a year. It's going to be very weird.

My mother is my mother though and I want to tell her. I am going to talk to DH today and see what his thoughts are before I do though. AHHH I will let you know what happens!

Re: What should I do? To tell my mother this early or not

Honestly, there is no way I could see my mom (whom I am close to) and NOT tell her.

DH and I didn't even hold it in for 24 hours after getting a BFP to my family...we just knew we'd spill it.

Whether you tell them at 8wks or now, I don't see the difference. If he's worried or superstitious, I'd rather my mom knew ahead of time if something went wrong, to be there for me. I'd tell her...but that's me!

Re: What should I do? To tell my mother this early or not

We were in the reverse situation. I wanted to wait until we saw a hb before telling any family but because of the timing we were going to see both families for the holidays and DH convinced me we should tell then... at 4.5 and 5.5 weeks! In retrospect I'm glad we did... but we waited until 13.5 weeks to tell extended family and friends and 15 weeks to come out on facebook.

I would tell my mom, in fact, I did tell my mom right after I told DH. Me and my mom are so close I couldnt wait.

If you really want to tell her, Let DH know beforehand that you want to confide in your mom too.

So I just spoke to him about it I called him at wotk and he was busy but he said he thinks its not fair. He's like youre supposed to tell the parents together. Wait till we are together. I'm like what?! This is my mother! I don't see why we should have to tell our parents together! Grr

Re: What should I do? To tell my mother this early or not

That's a hard one. I wanted to wait to tell my mom but ended up telling her as soon as we left the 1st sono appt. I told my sisters during the Thanksgiving holiday & the rest of the family/friends during the Christmas holiday. I'd say tell her but make sure your DH will be comfortable with it first.

I can kind of see his point. We did tell my parents together....I didn't want to do it separately. But I also see them almost everyday and they live less than 15 minutes from us...so we had the option to tell them the next day.

Does your mom live further away? Can you compromise and tell him that if you don't tell her today, you want to go to her this wknd, together as a couple, and tell her?

I told my parents, followed by just our siblings and one friend that knew we were trying.

I would tell your DH at least your mom should know because god fobid anything would happen to you, they knew you were pregnant.

we were planning on telling them at 12 weeks, but told them at 7. IMO it was the best decision ever.. b/c its a cruicial time and we felt that we needed all their combined prayers.. but we felt comfortable.. its really a very personal decisionChat Icon

Go on Sunday and do it together!

Though I know myself, I'd tell her now and make her act surprised on Sunday. Chat Icon

My mother was the 2nd person to know when I was like 4 weeks along. Mostly because I was a hysterical wreck! I had just left my job for another opportunity that had fallen through. I thought we were going to have to live in our car. So I needed the moral support. I think it's a personal decision though!

Re: What should I do? To tell my mother this early or not

Definitely a personal decision. Our DS was the first grandchild for both sides and both sides have been wanting grandchilds for a long time! Although it was extreeeemely hard not to say anything we didn't tell our parents until I was 11 weeks. We wanted to make sure everything was on track before telling the news. God forbid anything happened it would have been way to hard to tell everyone so that's why we inevitably decided to wait to tell. Not only that, but there was no way the moms especially MIL would be able to keep it quiet!

Re: What should I do? To tell my mother this early or not

Unless I had permission from DH, that is one thing I wouldn't go against. It is hard to do, but I found it to be funny at the same time.

Now that I have come out, they are all 'Well I knew because blah blah blah.' 'I had a feeling'

DHs response was great... yeah, that feeling.... it's called gas.

i would tell DH you want to tell your Mom. She's your Mom... :) and especially since you are close with her why not.

With both pregnancies, I told my mom the same day i peed on the stick. i don't know how you've even waited this long! Chat Icon
