Re: Baby Naming Poll
Not a problem at all to me, as long as I liked the name and it went well with the last name. Pretty much a non-factor really, I'd treat it as any other letter of the alphabet.

Re: Baby Naming Poll
it wouldnt bother me as long as the name flowed and i loved the name...
the only time i think i would object to it is if their last name was Matthews and they named their child Matthew. but to each their own

Re: Baby Naming Poll
DH, DD and myself all have first names that begin with 'C' as does DHs & DDs last name (I didn't change my name when we married). We 'go by' C3

Re: Baby Naming Poll
I had the same first and last initial. I never really thought about it ever.
I did have a student who called me super E and E squared when he found out my first initial. I was not bothered in the least.
ETA: they were my dad's, grandfather's and great-grandfather's initials as well

We have an Andy A too! (but a variation on Andy!)
In fact... I like it so much... our next kid will have an "A " first name also. The name sounds REALLY cool when you say the whole thing...

Re: Baby Naming Poll
Not an issue at all unless it is a weird combo. Like I saw somebody said "PP" I wouldn't do that. But they don't have to be the same letter for it to be a weird combo. Like our last name starts with an "S", so I don't want to name a kid a "B" name. ("BS"). I also thought of a few A names and couldnt do an A first name with a middle name starting with S (A.S.S).

Re: Baby Naming Poll
Our last name begins with a D so I would never name a girl with a name beginning with D because I wouldn't want her to have the nickname double D.

Re: Baby Naming Poll
For me, it depends upon the letter -no PP, or anything that reminds me of a cartoon character like MM (Mickey Mouse), DD (Donald Duck), BB (Bugs Bunny) and the like. Unfortunately, if we named DS that it would fit in one of those categories (although DH and his siblings all have the double letter). Other than that I'm okay with it.

Re: Baby Naming Poll
We're naming the next DD with the same first letter as our last name...at first I was hesitant but it flowed well so I don't mind it

Re: Baby Naming Poll
It depends on the name.
I ruled our all "L" names for DD.
My name is Lenore and my married name starts with an L. There is an old porn start who has a name very similar to my full married name and people often slip and call me that or write it in emails/reports.
I can't do that to a DD. I loved loved loved the name Lila but couldn't use it.
So, I guess my answer is as long as it doesn't make your kid sound like an adult film star
