Calves/Charlie Horses

Hey girls,
So, I have been getting crazy charlie horses in my calves... I wake up in the middle of the night screaming/crying in pain. My calves are still hurting me and it is really a nuisance- it's making it hard for me to walk properly. I have a doctor's appointment on Tuesday, but I wanted to see if anyone else is having these problems...

Anyone? lol

Been there!! Potassium and hydration are key. I would eat a banana and drink a huge glass of water and that made it better. When I did get them, it wasn't screaming in pain bad, and I was able to stretch them out pretty quickly.

I got them for the first time the other morning. I was in bed and I guess went to stretch or roll over and man, did it hurt! I thought it was how I slept that night so I've been sleeping with a pillow between my legs. I had no idea it was another thing to watch out for during pregnancy.

Ugh they are the worst. I would actually bruise from them. Definitely up your water intake. I have been eating a banana every morning and it helps

Re: Calves/Charlie Horses

This has been happening to me every night... like the others said, water and bananas help the most.

Re: Calves/Charlie Horses

SO painful! I've only gotten one or two this pregnancy.

When you feel them coming on, stretch your leg out in front of you and flex your foot towards you to stretch the muscle out. It hurts, but will end the cramp.

Try stretching before bed and avoid pointing your toes, which makes it worse.

Re: Calves/Charlie Horses

Bananas are supposed to help b/c of the potassium, so perhaps another high potassium food would work? Not that I know what one is...Chat Icon

When I got them with my first, I would have a banana and big glass of skim milk every night before bed. never got them again.

Since you can't do bananas - skim milk will work - it's high in potassium.

Re: Calves/Charlie Horses

I got it 3 times in the middle of the night since my pregnancy. From what I hear, dehydration might have something to do with it & I know I don't drink as much water as as I should. While I have a podiatrist appt this Tuesday, I also try and hydrate myself more too.
