Anybody worked with a profressional orgaziner?

I need some serious declutering help.

I can't get my motivation.

Did anyone work with a professional organizer?

If you did, who would you recommend? For how long? How much am I looking at?

TIA

What do you want to do? I am not a professional orgnizer but everyone I know thinks I should do that on the side. I've looked into opening one, so I can tell you basics. Go to Napo.net to find a local organizer in your area. Most give free consultations. Some have their own websites and even offer price quotes. Usully there is an hourly fee, cost of goods, and often a fee added on top which consitutes a percentage of the goods purchased for the project added onto the hourly fee and cost of goods. What do you want to do, maybe we can help you.

PURGE! That's what I need to do. I have clutter EVERYWHERE and no room, no storage, no closets.

Maybe I should just stick to "to do" list every week and slowly purge.

I guess it's been so long and I barely made a dint into the chaos that I am thinking to hire someone to "force" me to stay on task. Makes sense?

Tackle one project at a time. I am sure that you feel overwhelmed and if you take on more than you can handle, you may become discouraged and quit altogether. Set a small goal and envision and area (like a closet) organized to a way that would be suitable for your needs. I woudn't advise buying boxes, organization systems etc until you can define your needs and then create a plan. You then can measure the area you want to organize and use places like the Container Store to help this vision become a reality.

Purging is definately the first thing you want to do. By creating systems, you will eventually not allow future clutter into your home. When we don't know what we have in the home, we tend to overbuy and hence clutter. It has taken me 5 years to fully organize my house. I know where everything is and am not afraid to show my closets to anyone. One of my first projects was my pantry. My drieds good were a disaster and I over bought because I never knew what I had since it was in the back of the pantry and I couldn't see it. I emptied the pantry and assesed what I had-various pastas, rices, dried beans, etc. I threw out some things. I measured the pantry an went to the container store and bought stackable containers and a ptouch labeler and created my dream pantry. I open it and I can see what I have and need. It really is great and I never overbuy anymore. The process is very time consuming to develop a system, but once you do, you will wonder how you could ever live without. It is not easy but you CAN do it on your own if you can part with items and have a vision of what your ideal space would look like. GOOD LUCK!

I work on weekends, so yard sale are out.

I just want to get rid of EVERYTHING at this point.

Paper is my worst issue. It just reproduces. I never trash anything. I just dump in boxes and we have boxes EVERYWHERE. I don't have a desk and filing cabinet either.

Re: Anybody worked with a profressional orgaziner?

I have worked with an organizer twice. They both fid four hour blocks, one cost 200 (she was starting out) and the one i worked w/ recently charged 320. The first one was ok. I also have a lot of paper clutter and had no office soace at thd time. She did give me a vision for an office area in a long hallway in my apt. That worked out well, but i couldn't keep it organized! I hired another organizer who found places for my stuff that i would never think of. She even had time left over to organize my pantry and kitchen cabinets-- i was using my oven for pot/pan storage. If you want their names, fm me.

The only thing i would suggest is making sure you know where the organizer is putting your "little" things. It's frustrating not to be able to find your checkbook etc. I know it's SOMEWHERE, just dont know where.even though i'm a mess, i can generally find all of my stuff.

Good luck! I have to tackle my dresser and closet this weekend alone.
