Who's Fence is it?

DH and I have lived in our house for 6 years and all of neighbors have lived in theirs for roughly the same time. We have fence in the backyard we would love to replace although we (and our neighbors) do not know who originally put up the fence? Do I need to go to the town and ask about ownership, permits, etc?

Which way is the nice side facing? Towards you or the neighbor?

Technically, you are supposed to put the nice side facing outward. So if you see the nice side, the fence shouldn't be yours.

Also, if your neighbors don't want to own up to it and say you can replace it, it will now become your fence.

You can also check your survey to measure who's property it is on.

we had this issue and we got the property drawing and it said it was our neighbors..so we just put a fence up in front of our neighbors and didnt touch it!
