Beaches: Turks & Caicos
Has anyone ever been to the Beaches resort in Turks & Caicos? DH and I are throwing around the idea and I was wondering if anyone has been. If we go, DD will probably be close to 2.
Thanks!!

Re: Beaches: Turks & Caicos
I went for a wedding about 5 or 6 years ago. We were childless at the time, so I can't speak to the children's activities or anything but IMO it was WAY overpriced. The food was sub par, the rooms were in bad repair. Our shower didn't work right, the room smelled of puke when we checked in, the furniture was chipped. For what we paid for 2 nights there, I could have went on a cruise, with a balcony stateroom for a week!
Now again- this was about 5 or 6 years ago so I am not sure if they upgraded anything but to me it wasn't worth the money and I am NOT a picky traveller. I'm usually happy with just about anything. But to me this place wa way overpriced for what you got.
Check out tripadvisor.com for user reviews though- I always use that site before I travel. I really like the fact that people who have been there write their opinions about places.

Not sure about Beaches, but DH went to Club Med years and years ago with friends. B4 me. From what I hear the beaches are beautiful. I always check tripadvisor if you're not sure

Re: Beaches: Turks & Caicos
DH and I were in T&C in Nov 2009 - and although we didn't stay @ Beaches - a family next to us on the plan did - they said it was fantastic! So much to offer to the kids. Granted their children were closer to 10 - but they made it sound like the entire place was VERY family friendly.
(I am slightly jealous - dying to get back there - that is my most favorite destination on earth!)
If you do choose to go - PLEASE let me know how it was, I would love to foreplan a trip there with my DH, DD and future LO....
TIA

Re: Beaches: Turks & Caicos
I have never been but the commercials make it look super fun.
We are definitely going to the caribbean this winter.
Prices are very high for Beaches. I wonder how it compares to other family friendly resorts like Atlantis in the Bahamas or Hyatt in Aruba. I think it is more expensive than the Ritz or Four Seasons. granted beaches is all inclusive.

I just was poking around for late August - for 4 (2 under 2) and it was like 3600 (no airfare)

That's about right. It was INSANITY how pricey it was. And to be honest- for the money- it was sub par.
Though I must say the Island itself and the beaches there are STUNNING!

Wow!
Well I will definitely have to do a little research and will also check out trip advisor as well.
My heart is not set on Beaches or anything so I'm open to other places (but the kid-friendly activities/places are definitely a plus). Even Turks & Caicos is negotiable although it's a place I've been wanting to go to....
Thanks all for the input!

Re: Beaches: Turks & Caicos
OMG!! We have been twice and just booked trip number 3! LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! DS was 18mths first trip, then DD was 8mths and DS was 2 1/2.
The day camp was great...we would leave them there for nap time (from 100-5) and for a break for us...and DS never wanted to leave...they also took great care of the little one.
We would drop them off at night a few times (open till 10), but there was a lot to do with them at night. Sesame street show, parade..
It is the best place for families...we have traveled everywhere and always choose turks now. No one is ever bored..from waterpark, pools, beach...food is fantastic...lots of kid oriented resteraunts....just fab!!

Sounds like you had a blast! I'm also glad to hear you had a good time with your younger LOs. I wasn't sure if DD would be a little to young for it. Thanks for the feedback!

Re: Beaches: Turks & Caicos
We went to the one in Ocho Rios (Jamaica) last year.
Wasn't crazy about the resort facilities - room was just okay.
But the entertainment, etc. for kids was awesome. So many choices depending on if you want time with them or away.
We had a blast - DS was almost 3.
Everyone that I tell that too says "Oh, you should go to the one in T & C next time - it's so much better!"
I'm looking to book that one in the fall.

Re: Beaches: Turks & Caicos
We just got back two weeks ago and LOVED it! IMO for kids it is the best vacation because there was tons for them to do and yet it was very relaxing at the same time. Nothing beats your kids enjoying a Sesame Street show live on stage while you & DH sit back and sip a cocktail with a warm breeze blowing... ahhhh. Yeah we're totally going back next year.
ETA: DS is 3, DD is 9 mos. There was tons of cool stuff for all ages up through teens!

Re: Beaches: Turks & Caicos
We went a few years ago and it was AMAZING. So much for the kids to do and we used the "daycare" and were able to get DS out of the sun and get a bit of time to relax.

Re: Beaches: Turks & Caicos
We looked into going but could only travel during peak travel times and the airfare was WAY too expensive to justify a trip right now. IMO, Beaches is the ONLY place to travel with kids under 3. They really cater to the young toddler/baby as far as activities for them. No other resort had "toddler friendly" accommodations/activities. Most places cater to ages 3 and up.
Even though they might be expensive, you can't beat the quality of service and food you'd find - just like a Sandals vacation. It's all inclusive and you get what you pay for!

Re: Beaches: Turks & Caicos
We might go this Summer, it looks awesome! I found the price comparable to a cruise, minus the airfare, and you are not in a box of a room.
