Mexican 4 cheese?

Is that pausterized? It doesn't say on the bag. I ate it the other night when we had tacos. I know I read to avoid Mexican cheese, but I thought they meant the soft cheese that you dip the nachos in?

Anyone know? It doesnt say it's pausterized on the bag. It's a mix of cheese.. Jack, Queso, Cheddar and something else.

I had that last night with tacos too!! LOL I didn't even think about it, I'm sure its fine. My doctor said that 90% of the cheeses in the US now are. (even feta!)

Only packaged feta is.. not barrel feta.
Be careful. I would avoid eating it when out in a Greek place.

It is! We use this too.

rule of thumb - most cheese HAS to be pasterurized in The United States. Same with Eggs.

That's why I asked. Everything I read said soft cheeses (brie), and Mexican cheeses. I'm assuming it's the nacho type cheese, but I dont know.

Re: Mexican 4 cheese?

I just found this:

Soft cheeses most likely to be made from raw milk include feta, Brie, Camembert, blue-veined cheese like Roquefort and gorgonzola, and Mexican-style cheese like queso blanco, queso fresco, and panela.

I have never even heard of those mexican cheeses...so maybe nacho cheese is ok? I feel like nacho cheese is so processed that it has to be.

I think the Mexican cheese they want you to avoid is queso fresco. It's a soft white crumbly cheese. They sell it in specialty food stores and it's used a ton if you are in Mexico (obviously). I'm pretty sure the one that is sold in specialty food stores in NY is pasteurized, but I'd double check.

Regular Nacho cheese, the shredded 4 blend is totally safe. Nacho cheese is just a cheddar blend, and the 4 cheese is cheddar, jack blends.

I've also found Blue cheese, Gorgonzola, Feta, Brie that has Pastuerized milk as the first ingredient. I think I bought them in King Kullen & Stop & Shop.
