Did anyone start to look into this.. daycare, babysitter, nanny.. do they all cost the same???

Re: Daycare
It's unreal the cost of daycare!
My MIL will likely stop working and become our baby-sitter full-time...and we will pay any expenses she has until we get a house and she moves in with us.
But even doing that is so much LESS than sending our child to full time day care.
It really can break the bank for so many people.

Re: Daycare
DH is a teacher so we decided an in-home daycare was a good option for us, since when DH is off we wouldn't send DS to daycare. We take DS to the home of the person that takes care of him. She is licensed through the state. I pay $270/wk for him currently, 5 days, 6:30am-4pm. We don't pay for the days or weeks that DS doesn't go, since that is noramlly when DH is off.

Re: Daycare
I'm seriously contemplating my inlaws now, but they are older and my MIL is sooooo old fashioned.. I see her with my nephew.. how she force feeds him until he pukes and let him run amuck. My parents live really far.. so I would need daycare.

That's an awesome rate.. are you in Queens? And where and how did you find her?

Re: Daycare
It's a concern for us too. I'm only working per-diem right now (I'm a substitute teacher). I will have to go back to work FT, probably outside of the teaching field. This is an ongoing discussion between me and DH. The price is outrageous. We can't afford for me not to work (we're struggling as it is) but I'm wondering if my whole paycheck will just go to daycare.
We would only need 3 days/week (my mom would take a day and DH's mom would take a day) but nonetheless it's expensive.

Re: Daycare
Yeah, I've been researching too and the lowest I've found in Bayridge is $975 per month for an infant. I also came across sittercity.com, they have nannies and sitters. I plan to do a little more research on their site as the time gets closer.

Re: Daycare
Just called Kiddie Academy in Hicksville and they quoted me $1451 for an infant!!! and I am having twins!!!!! Also they do not offer 3 days a week (which is what we would need) regardless if your child is there 4 hours or 40 its the same full price. I just posted on parenting looking for ideas on how to find an in home day care, which is cheaper.
Does anyone have any refferals for in home daycare?
At this rate i may just stay home!

Re: Daycare
I know the price stinks. I went through it with 2 and will again soon with #3. BUT, you do get a child care credit (unless you do a FLEX spending plan, but then there is a tax benefit with that).
Sometimes nannies split weeks with other families - it's worth it if you need less than 5 days.
Anything under $300/week for full day, 5 days is great!
And when the day comes when they are not in DC anymore, think about all the extra money!? We took some and got a cleaning lady! and save the rest.
