'Celeb Rehab' Rocker from Alice in Chains Mike Starr Dead
Former Alice in Chains bassist Mike Starr died in Utah ... TMZ has learned.
Starr appeared on the third season of "Celebrity Rehab" back in 2009 -- and was arrested last month for felony possession of a controlled substance. Salt Lake City cops say he had 6 Xanax pills and 6 Opana (painkiller) pills when he was busted.
Starr was 44 years old.
Mike's dad tells TMZ, "It's a terrible shock and tragedy."
UPDATE: Police tell us Starr's body was found in a Salt Lake City home today. Cops say they were called to the house at 1:42PM.

So true. I don't think he was able to ever get passed the guilt and hurt of losing his best friend. Unfortunately this was not too shocking. Very sad.

I couldn't bring myself to watch him on that show. As a longtime big fan of the band, I was already aware of how he blamed himself for Layne's death a few years back...and its sad to say, but I didn't think the show would really help him.
I feel for the guy. I looked up to him a lot when I was younger, especially since he was a fellow bassist. I've seen him perform.
I hope he is remembered more for his music and the amazing band he was a part of, and not his short stint on some crappy 'reality' show.

When Layne's mom came to "family day" on celebrity rehab it was so heartbreaking to watch how much Mike blamed himself for Layne's death. He was holding on to so much guilt.
It's just so sad because despite his demons, he really did have a big heart.

I wasn't a fan of AIC, but this is so sad. Drug addiction is a terrible, terrible disease. It's pure evil. I feel so bad for his friends and family. Especially since he did go to rehab, so he wanted help.

This is the episode I was thinking of that stuck with me. It seemed like he had a big heart, a loving soul. SO SO SAD
