What is going on with my toliet?

Yesterday, i flushed, the water came over flowing out of the tank from the top. I turned off the water from under the bowl, cleaned up and the turned it back on, no issues. But why out of no where would my bowl over flow and from the tank.

Now, all the tank water is gross and rusty looking. I drained it again, and bleached all in the tank and cleaned up the sediment on the bottom of the tank but it is still pretty freaking nasty. We flush fine, but my tank water is pretty gross? Why? Anyone know what i need to do to fix this?

The float isn't stopping the water from filling the tank, although it's supposed to overflow back into the bowl. Next time you flush, when the tank is filling up, lift up on the float (either a big ball on a metal arm, or a cylinder around a post), and see if the water turns off. It may need to be adjusted. If the water doesn't turn off at all, even when the float is all the way up, you may need to replace everything. It's only about $10-$15 from HD or Sears, etc. for the kit, and takes about as much time.

Ok, i did that. I changed the level adjuster thing, so less water goes in because it was coming up to high. Now the freaking water is nasty brown. The water in the tank. Its really gross. Is there something i can do to make it nice and clear like it was?

Tablets that you put in the tank to keep the tank and the bowl clean.

Just spoke to our plumber, who btw changed out our hot water heater on Sat. He said it could just be build up from the pipes, since the water was off for so long. Idk. I have those tablets in my closet. I will put them into, let the water run and hopefully wont look like someone took an upper decker.
