plastic surgery consultation - what to ask

i had a lumpectomy last year (benign - thank goodness!) but it left me a little uneven. i've decided to go ahead and get breast implants.

for those of you who have had surgery, what questions did you ask during your consultation? what did you wish that you asked? any info or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

thank you!

if it's a good doc- you really shouldn't have to ask too many questions (or have prepared ones I guess I mean to say)

I was given a lot of info at my first consulation

then I met with the Doc- he measured me- we spoke about type, size etc

then I met with someone else to talk about payment, date etc

then I came back a week or so before- they went over everything again in detail

we finalized the size (I upped the size and changed to saline from silicone)

I went to another consulation- and it was nothing like the one I went to at suffolk plastic surgeons- I highly reccommend Dr Alder and his staff

Re: plastic surgery consultation - what to ask

I have implants but I have not had a lumpectomy, so I don't really know if the procedure for implants or the type used has anything to do with that.

A good plastic surgeon will discuss size and type with you, but they won't agree to make you a size that is not going to look good with your natural breast shape. I wanted to be a D, my doc was like no way, your shape will only allow a C at best. If I was stubborn I could have found a surgeon who would have given me what I wanted, but I trusted him, and I still have great results. I would ask what size he thinks will look best on you. Remember too, its hard to judge what your final bra size will be based on cc's of saline/silicone alone.
As far as implant type goes, it seems that everyone is doing the silicone implants, but there are some docs and patients who are opting for saline based on appearance. You will discuss this together and decide what will be best for you.

Good luck and keep us updated!
