When did your DC learn to swim? Are infant/toddler swim classes worth it?
I've been wanting to enroll DS in swim classes but we couldn't commit to a class where DH and I were available. My mom watches DS while we work and she takes him to other classes but didn't want to do swim.
How are swim classes for little ones? Do they actually learn to swim? How long did it take your little one to learn?

Somehow I feel like I might be behind a lot of people. DS actually starts his first swimming lessons tomorrow and he is 3.5.

Re: When did your DC learn to swim? Are infant/toddler swim classes worth it?
we have done the infant/toddler mommy and me at the YMCA twice so far- i started at 7 months and at 12 months he could climb out of the pool - we skipped the summer and i just played with him in a public pool - he might not be able to swim but learning safety helps
i work and can't commit to it on weekends also so it is hard - i usually take him my self but the Y is not too expensive so if we miss it is ok

DD is 21 mos and is just starting to swim on her own, she loves it!! Dh doesn't swim and I love the water and always wanted to have a water baby so DD has been in lessons since 2 mos. She goes to safety swim once a week.

DS started when he was 23 months - now 1 year later he can tread water for 2 minutes, jump into pool, turn around, swim to closest ledge and climb out. He can swim on his back as well.
I think its worth it!!!

Same here - although DD started at 3, she learned all this in about the same time frame.
It is $$$ but IMO so worth it.

I think we are doing it super early- but we have a lot of family members/friends that have pools and we will be around a lot of water this summer- we start next month and DS will be 4.5 months
My cousin put her dd in at the same age- they basically teach them survival techniques- I thought it was a good idea

DD starts lessons tomorrow and she is just over 6 months.
ETA: i'm not expecting her to know how to swim when we're done. i am doing it more for social interaction since she does not go to daycare and stays home with a nanny during the week.

23 months for us too. He's now been going for 18 months and is passed his level 3 safety (safety swim) and onto swimming techniques. Last summer (almost 3 yrs old) he was able to dive in head first and swim underwater across my pool (17') without coming up for air. This fall/winter he worked on floating on his back and switching from swimming underwater for a bit to floating on his back as a 'rest', then repeating) He's starting to swim arm over arm (freestyle?), but the coordination is not there yet (his arms get stuck behind him and he has to readjust, LOL. but it's improving)

DS is 14 1/2 months and has his last "lesson" of the session tomorrow.
I'm kind of disappointed - they didn't really teach him much (like how to climb out of the pool) but, he's more comfortable with putting his face in (so now he loves to pour water over his face - and drink it - in the bathtub as well!)
